Wai’anapanapa State Park, along the famous Road to Hana, features a stunning black sand beach. Visiting this black sand beach is one of the best things to do on the island of Maui in Hawaii. The beach was created by the waves pounding the black volcanic lava rock over thousands of years. Part of the beach is still pebbly, and you can see larger pieces of rock here and there as well. The Wai’anapanapa beach isn’t really recommended for swimming. But it is a beautiful place to admire the views, walk or sit on the shore, or hike the trails above the beach for a bird’s eye view. The picture-perfect beach, surrounded by lush green tropical vegetation, is made for Instagram! It’s one of the most famous stops on the Road to Hana drive, so it’s likely to be crowded during the day. Located just a few hours south of Manila, Palawan has been named the most beautiful island in the world by Travel + Leisure readers on numerous occasions. Coron– which encompasses the town of Coron (on Busuanga Island), Coron Island, and a Natural Biotic Area listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List– is arguably the most picturesque part of Palawan.

Picking a specific beach in Coron as the “best” is a fool’s errand: Anyone who has been there will tell you that the best beach is whichever one you’re on at the moment. We spent a lot of our time in Coron at Club Paradise, a resort located 40 minutes by boat from Busuanga on its own private island (Dimakya). On one side is Sunset Beach, which (naturally) offers stunning sunset vistas and exceptional snorkeling and Scuba diving. The Hidden Beach on the other side of the island is a great place if you want to feel like you’re the only people left in the world. If you get bored there, take the resort’s free island-hopping tour. We started ours on uninhabited Diatoy Island, where the gleaming white sand didn’t have a single footprint on it when we arrived. There are equally beautiful beaches and better snorkeling at Dimalanta Island, which boasts a stunning coral reef system right off shore. Lastly, we spent time on the beach at Malpagalen Island, a.k.a. the Island Without Trees. The striking sandbar features fascinating rock formations and dramatic limestone cliffs, as well as a small sea cave with the beautiful blue ocean and rolling hills of Busuanga Island’s coast in the background.

I highly recommend visiting the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa Resort if you ever get the opportunity!

In Uruguay, I’d already been to a large number of beaches, both coastal and fluvial. Many people – locals and foreigners alike – kept repping Cabo Polonio, so I had to check it out. The cape is located within a protected area off the coastal highway. From the entrance, you can choose to either hike the 7km or take a four-wheel drive with high clearance to the village. best beaches in the world

During the sandy hike, I wasn’t really sure about the worth-it factor, but once the forest, shrub, and wildflowers cleared and the peninsula was visible, I was stunned. Cabo Polonio is just a small settlement, but a very idyllic one at that. There is a beautiful lighthouse and a nearby sea lion colony. On the northern beach, you can go kitesurfing, swimming, or meditate and take barefoot walks in the nearby dunes.

By now you might be wondering what the catch is? Righteously so! The town has no permanent electricity, running water, or plumbing. A stay longer than a day trip will require you to tone down your pace and live by the circadian rhythms. The town has plenty of accommodation for those who aren’t looking for high-end luxury. Enjoy the ocean breeze with total mental clarity, and a power bank just to be safe.

One of my favorite beaches in the world is Gokarna in India. Gokarna might be a sleepy little town in the province of Karnataka, but it has plenty to offer for those that love a good beach and some adventure. The Gokarna beach trail is a walking trail offering amazing views on the ocean that connect all five beaches with each other. It’s a great way to explore all the beauty that Gokarna has to offer. The start of the trail is at the crowded public beach where pilgrims visiting Gokarna have to take a dip in the ocean. The rituals are interesting to watch, but its not the most idyllic place in Gokarna.

So different is the end of the trail where you have the beach all to yourself because the only people that come here is those that have finished the walk or those that come by boat. There is absolutely nothing but sand and palm trees. It’s not for nothing that this beach is called paradise beach.

46. Marazion Beach in Cornwall, United Kingdom

Hands down, if we’re talking English beaches, Cornwall has the best of the best. And with a whole host of excellent contenders, Marazion Beach is the cream of the crop – for me at least.

Why? Well you only have to look out over the crystal blue water to see why. Directly opposite the beach is the farytale figure of St Michaels Mount, which is run by the National Trust. This stunning castle on an island sets the scene for a beach that feels like it’s in another world. And you don’t have to just look at the mount, there are boat rides over or you can walk on a shimmering causeway when the tide is out – how many beaches can say the same? best beaches in the world

That’s not to say that this beach lacks all the ingredients for a perfect traditional beach. It’s got golden sand perfect for sandcastle making, cite rock pools full of tiny marine life and great swimming. You can even rent a kayak and paddle around, bliss!

47. Omadhoo Island in Maldives

Everybody knows the Maldives and probably everybody would like to visit one of the many beautiful islands there – and that’s exactly what I did. However, I wanted to travel the Maldives on a budget and decided to visit a local Island called Omadhoo (which you can reach in 2 hours from Male by speed boat!). The beach there simply blew my mind, and it was honestly the most beautiful I’ve seen so far in my life.

What made it so special to me was that it was almost untouched by tourism, as the island is only home to a few guest houses and doesn’t host thousands of tourists every day. In fact, the island has less than 1000 inhabitants, mostly locals. When you wander at bikini beach, which was set up for visitors, you will enjoy the pure beauty of a local island in the Maldives, without paying a fortune. best beaches in the world

Another great plus is the coral reef which surrounds the whole island. While snorkeling there I saw tons of fishes and even a small ray. If you’re lucky you can also see turtles or small reef sharks.

48. Ses Illetes Beach on Formentera Island, Spain

There’s hard to find a place in Europe that evokes more the Caribbean feeling than Formentera, the smallest of the Balearic Islands, near the coast of Northeast Spain. This is a real dream island in the Mediterranean Sea, and amongst the best beaches on Formentera Island, there’s one that will especially blow your mind, which is called Ses Illetes Beach (Platja Ses Illetes in the local Balearic language).
If you look for a perfect white-sand beach that doesn’t seem to ever end, then this is your place. Ses Illetes is located on a small peninsula where sand dunes cut the peninsula in half. The crystal clear, turquoise-colored water is almost always flat here like a mirror, and you will feel yourself in the real Caribbean. Since the area is a natural park, vehicle access to the beach is limited, and in the summer months, it’s recommended to approach it by bike or on foot to avoid problems with parking.

Curracloe is definitely one of the best beaches in Ireland. The beach is located in the southeast of Ireland in Co. Wexford which is a lesser known tourist destination than the west of the country and Dublin.
The long stretch of beach is known in Co. Wexford for its extremely white and soft sand. In the 1990s the beach was selected by Hollywood directors as the setting for some of the scenes in the famous movie, Saving Private Ryan starring Tom Hanks. best beaches in the world
Irish beaches aren’t necessarily visited for sunbathing and swimming but instead what’s great Curracloe beach is the fresh air that you’ll inhale into your lungs as you walk along it and take in the beautiful scenery. There’s also a forest beside the beach so you can walk in one direction along the shore and in the other among the trees. best beaches in the world
At the entrance, there’s a little arcade that also sells ice cream so if you do make it on a sunny day there’s nothing nicer than eating one while you lay back and take in the rays.

50. Champagne Beach in Vanuatu

You cannot visit Vanuatu – an archipelago between Australia and Fiji – without hearing about Champagne Beach on Santo Island. It’s the country’s most famous beach since it’s been ranked #9 in 2013 CNN’s 100 top beaches in the world. We slept nearby to be there before all the other visitors and got the famous beach only for ourselves. The water is beautiful in Vanuatu, but it looked even more transparent at Champagne Beach. Plus, the beach had some touches of originality. It’s not often that you have cows wandering around on one of the purest white sand with stunning turquoise water in the background. And I had never seen a source coming from the ground to the sea. It sometimes creates bubbles – hence the name given to the beach. There’s a small fee to pay to access the beach, which is a great solution to bring revenue to the locals so they can manage the place.
