Ximending is one of the top places you could stay at and still get to see almost every single attractions in Taipei. What are the must-visit spots near Ximending? One thing I can tell you, A LOT!

We spent 9 days traveling in Taiwan and two of our accommodations are located in Ximending (which we highly recommend) so we got to see what are the nearby spots in the area, by walking or by taking the bus and train.

1. Ximending Night Market

Ximending Night Market

You can’t miss the sparkling night lights and lively jive at Ximending Night Market. Walk out from your hotel or hostel and you’ll be in a different scene where it is livelier with the overwhelming crowd. This night market almost has it all, from fancy stuff to the delicious food offerings, almost everything you could think of, you could find here!

2. The Red House

The Red House

Also known as the Red House Theater. The Red House is a historical site located in Ximending. It was built in 1908 during the Japanese rule. It’s just across the other street from Ximending night market. This building has been over 100 years old. Walk a little further more and you would find the bars (especially gay bars) beside the theater. Must-Visit Spots near Ximending

3. Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

The National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

To get there, ride the MRT Ximen Station (Green Line) and get off at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station.
The most prominent historical monument in Taiwan, the CKS Memorial Hall was erected in honor and memory of General Chiang Kai-shek, the past President of the Republic of China, and was opened in 1980 as part of a national park and gathering area.
The name of the square is officially Liberty Square, however, the name change was politically motivated and most people in practice still refer to the entire complex as the CKS Memorial Hall.

4. Longshan Temple

Longshan Temple

One of the oldest temples in Taipei and just one station away from Ximending. It’s also one of the famous temples in Taiwan due to it being near the city center. To get there, ride MRT Ximen Station (Blue line) and get off at Longshan Temple Station. Must-Visit Spots near Ximending
We spent a couple of minutes in here. The crowd is usually overwhelming including those kids that are on tour.

5. Huaxi Night Market

HuaXi Night Market

Located about 3 km from Ximending. The fastest way to get there is thru the Longshan Temple Station and walk a few blocks northwest. It can be navigated easily thru Google Maps. Huaxi Night Market is one of the markets with the most exotic food offerings, from boas (snakes) to frogs or insects, those can be found in this market. Must-Visit Spots near Ximending

6. Bo Pi Liao Old Street

Bo Pi Liao Old Street

You can get here via a short walk from the Longshan Temple. Bo Pi Liao Old Street is a historical street with buildings that are very old. Popular among all walks of life. Must-Visit Spots near Ximending

7. Watson’s Ximen Store

The largest Watson’s store we have ever seen. It’s known in the area because it’s the only Watson’s store with four (4) floors of products and is located in the center of Ximending. You should check the store out!

8. 228 Peace Park

228 Peace Park

2/28 Peace Park is a historical site and a municipal park located few blocks away from MRT Ximending. The park contains memorials to victims of the February 28 Incident of 1947, including the Taipei 228 Memorial that stands at the center of the park and the Taipei 228 Memorial Museum.

9. Taipei Provincial City God Temple

Taipei Provincial City God Temple

The Temple is conveniently located at Wuchang Street, very close Taipei Main Station and MRT Ximending. Opposite the Temple is a market area where you can try the beef noodles in town. Taiwanese and Chinese people often visit here for a short prayer or wish. Must-Visit Spots near Ximending 

10. National Taiwan Museum

National Taiwan Museum

Established in 1908, the museum is the oldest in Taiwan. A short walk from 228 Peace Park and a few meters away from Taipei Provincial City God Temple. We visited this museum to check a few of Taiwan artifacts and a bit of history. Entrance is $30 NTD only.

11. One Piece Mugiwara Store

One Piece Mugiwara Store – Ximending

One store you should visit if you are a fan of the hit anime ‘One Piece’. It’s one of the official One Piece stores in the world where you can buy original One Piece merchandise. I felt like a kid again when I got to the store. We didn’t expect it to be in the location as I have not even seen this in Google Maps.

Since Ximending is also a part of the city center, it is just advisable to book a room within the area. We have experienced the first two on the list so we definitely recommend you staying at those.
