It’s easy to have the energy for the things you want to do. It’s not so easy for the things you don’t want to do. That’s why it’s essential to plan things you’re excited about when you’re on vacation.
Don’t do things you think you’re supposed to do. For example, if you’re vacationing in Nashville, you may be tempted to visit the Grand Ole Opry. It’s a classic favorite among visitors because it’s known the world-over for hosting some of the best country music artists. However, if you don’t really care about country music, don’t feel like you have to visit!
If you want to spend the day shopping, spend the day shopping. If you want to spend the day at the spa, spend the day at the spa. Don’t go to theme parks, museums, and historic sites just because you feel like you have to.

Get Plenty of Sleep

Sleep is important, but it can be elusive. Especially when you’re sleeping in an unfamiliar bed.
Getting quality sleep really is the best way to boost your energy, and getting it isn’t too hard if you know how to make your hotel room more comfortable.

A few tips include:

  • Stick to your normal bedtime routine.
  • Make the bed more comfortable by sleeping on the comforter or asking for more pillows.
  • Use a white noise machine.
  • Keep the room cool.
  • Use an eye mask to keep the light at bay.

Take a Nap

Whether you get good sleep at night or not, it’s normal to feel a little slump in the afternoon. Although napping used to be a dirty word, it is anything but today. When done right, napping is actually recommended by health professionals.

Prepare Ahead of Time for Jet Lag

Traveling just a few hours to a time zone that is just one or two hours away isn’t a very big deal. However, if you’re traveling by plane and are jumping multiple time zones, you can expect to deal with jet lag.
Nothing can drain your energy faster than jet lag. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to minimize its effects. It starts long before you board the plane.
Tips that will help you conquer jet lag include:

  • Adjusting your internal clock up to four days before your departure.
  • Opt for an overnight flight when you can so you can get some sleep.
  • Time the dosage of sleeping pills carefully to ensure you aren’t drowsy when you shouldn’t be.
  • Spend time outside in natural sunlight to help reset your body’s internal clock.
  • Avoid taking naps longer than 20 minutes, no matter how tired you are.

Sure, while the place isn’t a big city, its rich history grants it a place in almost everyone’s bucket list. Regarded to be among the most significant places in French history, the seaport served as the historic scene of a major turning point in history, particularly during the Second World War.

To help you get a glimpse of how important this city is, here is a rundown of the most important points you need to know about the immense history of Dunkirk, France. Read on to know why you shouldn’t miss to visit this place in person.

The Miracle of Dunkirk: What Happened?

Generally, to understand the significant role Dunkirk played in history, we need to look back at the year 1940, a time which many deemed to be a turning point in the Second World War. 

At the time, thousands of British Expeditionary Force (BEF) members and other Allied troops found themselves stuck as German forces closed in on them. The only option left to survive was to retreat to Dunkirk, the northernmost city in France, where they could go back to the safety of England. 

In an effort to flee and avoid being crushed by the forwarding enemies, Vice Admiral Bertram Ramsay called for as many naval vessels and ships as possible to begin the evacuation. The effort, which they termed Operation Dynamo, became what we now know as the “Miracle of Dunkirk.”

How Did the Plan Go?

Overall, the evacuation didn’t come off easily. In fact, in the initial plan, it was estimated that only about 30,00 troops can be lifted off before the German troops arrive. Moreover, even before the ragtag fleet made it into the shore to save the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) and other Allied troops from the French seaport of Dunkirk, the harbour already became partially blocked due to the ships sunk by the German’s relentless bombing attacks.

On the first day of the Operation Dynamo, only about 7,500 men from Dunkirk were able to evacuate. This was then followed by around 10,000 the following day. Initially, the plan wasn’t going well, and thousands are at risk of being crushed by the enemies right there and then.

Luckily, in a fascinating turn of events, the emergence of various little ships made the massive difference and marked the turning of the tide.

Specifically, as Dunkirk had such a shallow shore, small ships, such as motor boats, fishing smacks, trawlers, lifeboats, paddle steamers and many other types of craft came over to the rescue and fetched as many troops from the shore to carry them towards the larger ships situated in the further north.

Overall, Operation Dynamo ended with a total of 338,226 troops saved from the clutches of the German army. About 198,000 of those were British and some 140,000 were French and Belgian troops. About 636 Allied naval ships also survived, with about 262 enemy planes claimed.

Winston Churchill, Britain’s Prime Minister at the time, called the event a “miracle of deliverance.” To date, the Dunkirk evacuation remains to be a significant event in French history that helped boost the civilian morale and created what many termed to be the ‘Dunkirk spirit.’

1. From Manila, ride Victory Liner in Gil Puyat (or Cubao)

Ponderosa top of the hills – nice and breathtaking view of Puerto Galera.
Activities: Zipline – long and fun to fly over the mountain with green trees (we didn’t try this as I remember P700.00 per person)
Skywalk – it’s about 300m long thru the forest. There are uphill and downhill. (I forgot the price)
Sto. Nino Sand Bar Beach – a tiny strip that connects the island of Mindoro to Boquete Island. (They have entrance fee I don’t know the rate) we only check the place because we need to catch up the sunset in the lighthouse
Virgin Island – A clear water that you can swim and they have a small cliff dive.
Sabang – a bustling town area with many Korean foods (we only across here to Sinandigan)
Sinandigan Light House – as per Kuya Dodi 2nd best spot for Sunset view (we didn’t get here due to road construction)
Dulangan Bulabod Beach – as of Ate Aya this is a solemn and nice place (we didn’t get here also due to lack of time)
Tamaraw Falls – the waterfalls are refreshing, relaxing and very nice view. (Slippery)

White beach – the best spot for Sunset within the shore in Puerto Galera as of Kuya Dodi and party place at night.

Make sure to book a scooter a day before to have plenty time to explore Puerto Galera.
