Indonesia Quick Getaway: Daytour to Treasure Bay Bintan

In the previous articles, I’ve mentioned that we had a day tour in Indonesia. Why? Because we’re only a day away before going back to our home country.

Here’s your guide to enjoying a day in Bintan and exploring a part of the island. Seriously, one day isn’t really enough so you better book for Indonesia longer.

In this article, however, features a great and affordable family and or couple staycation offered by a resort in Bintan, the Treasure Bay. If you want to spend a whole day, this resort will take good care of you and your pocket.

Treasure Bay Bintan

Treasure Bay Bintan is a 338-hectare waterfront resort located in Bintan, Indonesia, just an hour away from Singapore and 10-mins by walk from the ferry station in Bintan.

Once you have arrived at the station, just walk your way to the exit gate and go straight ahead. The entrance to Treasure Bay Crystal Lagoon is on your left.

For more images, here’s a link to FB page’s gallery of Treasure Bay Crystal Lagoon.

What to See and Do in Treasure Bay?

Crystal Lagoon

Crystal Lagoon is the first in South East Asia. It’s a manmade saltwater/seawater lagoon at 6.3 hectares. An extensive range of activities awaits you in this area. The lagoon’s seawater is filtered, hence, delicate on the skin and isn’t too salty if you get a taste. It was said to have the perfect water condition all year round. It is also eco-friendly and is safer than regular swimming pools with too many chemicals added to it.

Best Beaches in the World According to Travel Bloggers | Page 1

Water makes up to at least 71% of the Earth’s surface. No wonder why there are so many gorgeous beaches and sceneries we can find all over the world, name it, from black sand to white sand beaches. For people who love to travel a lot, the beach is a great source of energy and go-to place when we need sun exposure and much enjoyable vacation.
Going to the beach is actually good for everybody! The salt water helps soothe aching joints, the sand makes a good natural exfoliator, the sun gives us Vitamin D which is needed by our body, the waves helps us relax and work out at the same time, it relieves us from mental stress, and most of all, you get to enjoy the company of others and or yourself.

Since travel bloggers have a wide range of knowledge regarding where to go best, we asked for their most recommended and favorite beach that they have been to. Here are their recommendations for the best beaches in the world that you should go at least once in your lifetime (not in particular order).

1. Perhentian Kecil in Malaysia

According to Allan of More Passport Stamps
best-beaches-in-the-world-according-to-travel-bloggers
“Perhentian Kecil is an idyllic tiny island just off the coast of mainland Malaysia. Running down it’s West Coast is Coral Beach. At each end of the beach is a hotel for those looking a luxury, and dotted in between are campsites for those looking to save money. The atmosphere is friendly, the fish are abundant and the sun is in the Goldilocks zone! This has to be one of my favorite beaches in the world because you can kayak, snorkel, SCUBA, swim and frolic all in one warm, sandy, not overcrowded beach. Also, for the more adventurous, you can walk through the thick jungle behind the beach inland. I had planned to stay here for a few days but extended my stay as soon as I arrived, and I know others that have done the same. Coral Beach offers you everything you could want from a beach, all in one perfect location.”

2. Warwick Long Bay Beach in Bermuda

According to Henry Wu of This Life Of Travel
Follow his adventures on Instagram: @humminglion

best-beaches-in-the-world-according-to-travel-bloggers
We’ve been to our fair share of breathtaking beaches and azure waters, but nothing could have prepared us for the stunning pink beaches of Bermuda. One of our favorites was Warwick Long Bay, just a short drive from the Fairmont Southampton, with its pastel beaches that ran for miles and seemingly had barely a soul, minus the random jogger or tourist here or there. There are several limestone coves all along the Bay which make for fantastic all day hangout spots. With the Gulfstream flowing between North American and Bermuda – the resulting weather here is fantastic all year round. Additionally, there isn’t an official rainy season, and when it does rain, they are quick outbursts that are over before you know it. Peak temperatures during summer are 85 F with a cool breeze at night, while temperatures during winter hover around 65 F at it’s the lowest point. Perfect temperatures and clear blue water – what more can you ask for?

3. Morjim Beach in Goa, India

According to Chandresh of Family on the Wheels
Follow their adventures on Instagram: @enthralling_ventures

best-beaches-in-the-world-according-to-travel-bloggers
GOA: Also know as Party capital of India, it’s is a place known for its beaches, nightlife, parties, and love for life equally among Indians and International travelers.

Morjim Beach: This beach is quite unique in itself, the sand is shiny blackish, fully absorbed with sea water. You’ll spot numerous beautiful, orange purple colored shells on this really clean beach. Few locals there made us aware of the breeding seasons of sea turtles & their presence on the beach during the winter months. This place is also called “Little Russia”, due to many Russians inhabiting nearby.   Although shacks are limited here, even the restaurants are less this beach is a stopover to relax, and applaud the nature. Being a government protected official nesting place for  Olive Ridley Turtles, who knows when you might be surprised with a guest appearance by them.  Best Beaches in the World

4. Montezuma Beach in Costa Rica

According to Demi Johnson of Around the World with Her
best-beaches-in-the-world-according-to-travel-bloggers
Costa Rica has both a Pacific and Caribbean coastline, so it is no surprise that the country has some of the best beaches in the world. One of my favorites is beautiful Montezuma, a tiny town on the Pacific Coast. Montezuma Beach is an idyllic stretch of sand with clear blue water and is not too busy. However, the real draw of this beach and what sets it apart from others around the world is the turtle hatchery. Run by volunteers who watch the hatchery 24 hours a day, this little guy on the beach is a must visit attraction at Montezuma Beach. Every night, rangers patrol the beach and collect any eggs which have been laid by the Olive Ridley turtles. This prevents poachers from taking them and selling or eating the eggs. The eggs are then kept in the hatchery away from harm until the tiny turtles emerge. Every afternoon, the volunteers release the baby turtles. You can watch as these tiny babies take their first steps, and run towards the ocean before being swept away by the waves. It’s a beautiful sight and something that really makes Montezuma beach a special place.

5. The Baths in the British Virgin Islands

According to Chris Christensen of Amateur Traveler
best-beaches-in-the-world-according-to-travel-bloggers

My favorite beach is in the Virgin Islands, the Baths on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. The Baths is a typically beautiful Caribbean beach with azure blue waters. It is nestled in among an array of very large boulders and it is these boulders that make the beach so memorable. If you approach the beach from the land side), you have to make your way through a sea cave through and under these large boulders. So by the time you even get to the beach you have had a great experience. The Baths is also extremely popular with sailors and there will likely be a number of sailboats moored off the beach. It is not a particularly large beach and the water in the main beach gets deep rather quickly so snorkeling is best left to confident swimmers. Some visitors will never find the beach and some will just choose to find a private boulder to sun themselves on. However you approach the Baths, you will remember it. Best Beaches in the World

6. Dunas de Maspalomas in the Canary Islands

According to Joanna Dąbrowska of Over Here
Follow her adventures via Instagram: @overhere_travel_blog

best-beaches-in-the-world-according-to-travel-bloggers

The Canary Islands are a sunny all-year destination. They are perfect for sun lovers, beachgoers and all outdoor aficionados who look for stable pleasant weather and picturesque landscape.

My favorite island is Gran Canaria. It is the warmest and least windy of all Canary Islands.

Gran Canaria is especially famous for beautiful beaches. The majority of them are situated in the south of the island.

The most interesting place for basking in the sun is Playa del Inglés – a lively sea resort located close to the famous Dunas de Maspalomas. This sandy desert-like beach has been protected as a nature reserve since 1987. Best Beaches in the World

Dunas de Maspalomas is perfect for long walks. The area covers whopping 404 hectares (1,000 acres) and is the biggest beach in the Canary Islands. One can even break a sweat there as some of the dunes reach 15 meters. If you need a workout, then Dunas de Maspalomas is a perfect place for you.

The place is so vast that it is great for tourists looking for a getaway. There are no crowds and it is easy to contemplate the amazing nature in peace and quiet. Also, Instagram influencers will be happy about this beach – Dunas de Maspalomas is one of the most picturesque areas in Gran Canaria.

7. Cape Cross in Namibia

According to Jenny of TraveLynn Family
Follow their adventures on Instagram: @travelynnfamily

best-beaches-in-the-world-according-to-travel-bloggers

Cape Cross in Namibia is known for its stinky seals. Tens of thousands of seals congregate on this headland to socialize, jostle over space and feed on the plentiful fish. There is a walkway that takes you right up close to them. We found their comical walk and arguing, to be absolutely hilarious. Best Beaches in the World
But just a stone’s throw away from the seals, but far enough from the smell, is one of the most beautiful stretches of beach. The sea is a bit too rough and chilly for a leisurely swim, but it’s a spot where you feel a million miles away from anywhere. There are no shops or cafes but there is a basic campsite here (no power or running water) should you wish to stay overnight (which is what we did), or a lodge a short walk away. If you do camp, don’t leave any food out overnight as there are lots of jackals around; you’ll see their footprints on the beach in the morning. If like us, you are traveling Namibia with kids, this spot is perfect for an overnight stay between the Skeleton Coast and Swakopmund.

8. Pfeiffer Beach in California

According to Victoria Watts Kennedy of Bridges and Balloons
Follow her adventures on Instagram: @bridgesandballoons

best-beaches-in-the-world-according-to-travel-bloggers
Pfeiffer Beach is one of the most beautiful sights on California’s iconic Big Sur coastline. The secluded beach is home to Keyhole Arch, a huge rock with a hole at the base where the waves come crashing through and you can catch a glimpse of the horizon beyond. It’s an incredible spot for sunsets. The sand at the beach has a purple tinge, created by the interplay of different minerals, getting more purple, the further north you go. Go there to hang out and soak in the beauty of the Big Sur coast.
The beach can be reached down the 2-mile Sycamore Canyon Road, just off Highway 1. Be aware that there is limited parking, so you may not be allowed down the road to the beach if the parking lot is full (there’s an attendant at the top of the road). Put the route into your sat nav ahead of time as the road is tricky to spot and network coverage is scarce.

9. Playa Conchal in Costa Rica

According to Sally Pederson of Luxurious Lifestyles
Follow her adventures on Instagram: @luxuriouslifestyles.co
best-beaches-in-the-world-according-to-travel-bloggers
Playa Conchal in Costa Rica is my favorite beach on the Northern Pacific side of the country. A small hill with giant rocks protruding out into the ocean is the only thing that separates this 4 km beach from the neighboring Playa Brasilito to the east. This large rock area is the most popular place for snorkeling in the area. The crystal waters make it a great place to find various fish. The beach area around the rock is made of up of broken sea shells. The interesting thing about this is as move further down the beach away from the rock, the shells become smaller and smaller until it is like powered sand.
Playa Conchal can become a  very beach. Lots of locals and tourists enjoy the area. However, if you are going you will want to pack a cooler and bring drinks and food with you. There is a large resort with security guards hidden behind the trees, but other than that, there are no buildings. Sometimes there will be some locals selling food they are barbequing and others selling beer and water along the beach, but don’t count on it. Just like every touristy place, just outside the hotel, there are many locals selling everything from wood products to jewelry and beach blankets. Water sports rentals are also available.

10. Whitehaven Beach in Australia

According to Dave Anderson of Jones Around The World
Follow his adventures on Instagram: @jonesaroundtheworld
best-beaches-in-the-world-according-to-travel-bloggers
Australia is an absolutely massive country with gorgeous cities, coastlines, and is home to over 10,685 beaches.  While some may think it would be a difficult task to pick a favorite, I actually think there is no competition for which is one is the most beautiful!  Whitehaven Beach, located in the idyllic Whitsundays, is easily my top place to visit in the entire country!  I’ll never forget my first visit to Airlie Beach & The Whitsundays.  I took a full-day seaplane tour ride over Whitehaven Beach and landed right on the ocean and swam to the beach.  The water is the perfect color, pristine temperature, and the sand is so soft and white it’s magical.  There are plenty of day trips through the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef, and I think it’s one of the best things you can do in the country!

Once there’s a sign ‘Alternate Route to Lipa,’ turn left and once you see the Petron Gas Station, turn left. Look for the way going to San Juan until you see the San Juan Municipal Hall. Once you get to the place, there are a number of resort signs which signals the road to Laiya.

Sarao Motors: The Jeepneys the Philippines are Known For

Jeepneys are what makes the Philippines known for. A unique car in the world, only in the country. The known cheapest way to commute in the Philippines.

History of Jeepneys

Sarao Motors - https://twobudgettravelers.com

Public transportation in the Philippines is run by jeepneys. They were formerly made from US military jeeps left over from World War II and are well known for their ornate style and crowded seating.
As American troops left the Philippines at the end of World War II, hundreds of jeeps were sold or given to local Filipinos. Locals stripped down the jeeps to accommodate several passengers, added metal roofs for shade, and decorated the vehicles with vibrant colors and bright chrome hood ornaments.
Although the original jeepneys were simply refurbished military jeeps, modern jeepneys are now produced by independently owned factories within the Philippines.
A Sarao jeepney was exhibited at the Philippine pavilion at the 1964 New York World’s Fair as a national image for the Filipinos.

Sarao: A Family Image of the King of the Road

Sarao Motors - https://twobudgettravelers.com

Over the last six decades, no other family in the country has become more compared with this mode of transport than the Saraos, who to this day continue the venture started by their patriarch Leonardo, a kutsero (horse-drawn wagon driver) who segued into auto mechanics and produced his first jeepney in a small garage in Las Piñas in 1953.
Sarao is also a producer of owner-type, custom-built jeepneys and other types of vehicles for schools, businesses and other institutions. Pope John Paul II rode on a specially built owner-type jeepney by Sarao during his first travel to the country in 1981.
With the recent news about jeepney phase-out, they have partnered up with e-jeepney manufacturers to make an e-jeepney under their manufacturing name.

Sarao Motors - https://twobudgettravelers.com
Edgardo Sarao with the e-jeepney prototype frame

We visited the Sarao Motors located in Brgy. Pulang Lupa in Las Piñas City and was able to speak with Edgardo Sarao, Leonardo’s son who contonued the legacy of Sarao Motors.
Despite the rise of buses, ride-sharing apps, and taxi, jeepneys still remain as “the people’s transportation”.  It’s not glamorous and luxurious, but it’s multipurpose.
Sarao Motors up until now creates jeepneys. While some are for transportation purposes, there are other models and prototypes too. Some are custom made just for a project or exhibit. They are also trying to innovate in the design of the jeepneys.

Edgardo said they had also been accepting “special projects” from resorts and hotels that want tawdry jeepneys as part of their shuttle service or as an eye-catching image for tourists.
On display is a jeepney made for by Hennesy. Edgardo mentioned that it was a custom-made jeepney with a particular purpose. It can host a small party inside with bar, wine, and drinks.

7 Must-Do Things To Increase Immune System When Traveling

Traveling can put your immune system to test because of the stress and the germs you’re exposed to. It can be pretty scary to think that you cannot make the most out of your trip because you may pick up an illness along the way.
According to experts, the best thing travelers can do is boost the body’s immune system. Be it naturally or with the help of supplements, anything that can strengthen the immune system is good. After all, nobody wants to spend time in the hospital while on a trip abroad.
If you are traveling soon, here are some tips you can follow to boost your body’s immune system. Small things can matter most when staying healthy and avoiding the hassle of getting sick. Here’s a guide to help your body prepare before and while on a trip.
Increase Immune System When Traveling

The Role Of The Immune System

The body’s immune system plays a vital role in recognizing harmful substances and fighting disease-causing germs that enter the body. Without it, the body cannot survive because bacteria can damage cells and organs.
The immune system is like security personnel that distinguishes suspicious individuals in an establishment. Upon contact with the suspicious individual, the security personnel can conduct an investigation and summon the police.
In the same way, the immune system works by storing information about the bacteria and how to fight it. If the body comes into contact with the same type of germ again, the body already recognizes it right away and can fight it faster.

How The Immune System Is Weakened

Immune health can be weakened with poor nutrition, smoking, alcohol, and contact with a viral infection like AIDS. The later is the worst enemy of the immune system as the infection destroys the white blood cells, which help fight bacteria, viruses, and germs.
If you’re constantly exposed to an environment full of germs and bacteria, your body can suffer as the immune system has to work harder. Therefore, sanitation is important to get rid of possible germs that could harm the body’s defenses.

Things To Increase And Boost Immune System

If you are traveling, consider the following to increase your immune system.

Get Enough Rest

Having undisturbed sleep or rest is important to reduce stress, repair cells, and ensure optimal well-being. If you lack sleep and you do lots of activities for your trip, you might end up being irritated and stressed out.
Additionally, sleep deprivation can also leave you more vulnerable to respiratory infections and other ailments. That’s why it is recommended to get enough rest before, during, and after your trip.

Stay Hydrated

Drinking water helps carry oxygen to cells, which is imperative for organs to function. Also, drinking enough water also helps remove toxins from the body, which helps immune health in the long run
While on a trip, you might be too busy to drink water but you should make a point to drink a glass every one to two hours. This way, you can feel refreshed and stay hydrated during your trip.

Eat Nutritious Foods

One natural way of boosting your immune system is by consuming healthy foods. Prioritizing nutrient-dense foods promotes good immune function. Experts say that eating six to eight fruits and vegetable servings can support a healthy immune system.
When traveling, consume more greens and fruits to boost your body’s defense system. You can still eat less-nutritious foods but make sure to back it up with fruits and vegetables.

Move Your Body

Doing physical activities like exercise help flush out bacteria in the lungs and airways. This is helpful to aid the immune system when fighting a bacteria or infection. Moreover, doing a workout strengthens muscles and helps the body endure long walks and standing for hours.

Sanitize

Another way of defending your body from disease-causing bacteria is by sanitizing and maintaining proper hygiene. Use anti-bacterial wipes to clean your seat on the plane and other surfaces. It would also help to use soap and water to clean your hands.

Meditate

Meditating helps regulate stress in the body and improve mental fortitude. You can meditate by doing simple breathing exercises for about 10 to 15 minutes a day. Yoga is another physical activity that not only keeps your body strong but also helps you clear your mind of worries.

Take Immune Supporting Supplements

To support your body’s immune health, you can take supplements to fight off infections. When you lack proper vitamin intake through nutritious foods, you can always back it up with supplements. Take some each day to support your immune system.

Conclusion

With a healthy lifestyle, intake of essential nutrients, and being physically fit, you can boost your immune health while traveling. Consider additional precautions like sanitizing things and getting enough rest to rejuvenate bodily functions and avoid stress.

Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay: The Best Party Hostel in Boracay Island

Since the Boracay closure issued by the Philippine President on April 26, 2018 good for 6 months, many establishments and businesses have stopped their operations to make way for the rehabilitation of the island. Weeks ago before it’s reopening, the Department of Tourism issued certificates for hotels that are allowed to accept bookings and operate its business once again. There also have been a lot of changes since the closure of the island.

One cannot just simply book a flight and head on to the island without a confirmed booking on one of the confirmed hotels that were given a certificate of compliance to operate. Now, if you are looking for a great place to stay, make friends, party and drink a lot, Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay is what you should look for. Good times are sure you could look forward to when you stay at this fab boutique hostel. Read our previous experience staying at one of their private rooms.

Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay: A New Experience

After knowing about the closure, airlines have informed their booked clients to rebook or reschedule their visit to the island which we did. We went to the island three (3) days after its reopening and was quite surprised about the changes the rehabilitation did to the island.
The roads are still being constructed despite the six (6) months period the island was closed. There are buildings in line for demolition yet it’s still not taking place. The place was still in a bit of chaos according to the foreign tourists I spoke to. Despite that, the beach has the most beautiful impact on its closure. It’s clearer and fresher than ever it was.

With the new and fresh look of Boracay, comes all with the new and freshly opened hotels and hostels in town. Lucky to those who have been issued a certificate of compliance, they are now allowed to accept bookings from October 26 onwards. One of which is our favorite hostel to stay in, Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay.
Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay is one of the few hostels who made it to the list of compliant establishments and is the first to get certified within the area of Bulabog Beach.

4-Bed Mixed Dorm Room

Previously, we stayed in their Superior Double Room which is a private room good for two. This time, since there would be four (4) of us staying at the hostel, we opted to sojourn at a 4-Bed Mixed Dorm, room 303.

The 4-Bed Mixed Dorm room gives you the comfort of having a double-sized bunk bed with your own light, storage space, a fan, and a single outlet for you to charge your phones and other gadgets. It is recommended to bring or buy an extension cable to help you charge all your gadgets at once.
This dorm also has a shared in-room comfort room with the provision of a hot and cold shower, a washbasin, and a basic toilet and shower area.
Don’t also forget that each room in Mad Monkeys Hostel is air-conditioned so if you just want to stay indoors to avoid the heat of the outside world, that’s perfectly fine. But hey, we are on an island where the beach is waiting!
You also have access to the lounge, pool area, and the bar same as everybody else. Go get dressed up or not for a party that’s waiting downstairs!

Halloween Party at Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay

Did we mention there’s a party going on every night at this hostel? Yes! and we all experienced that during our stay!
mad-monkey-hostel-boracay-the-best-party-hostel-in-boracay-island
One of the reasons that people keep coming back to Mad Monkeys Hostel is that the party vibe never stops (unless it’s time to sleep and it’s past midnight). You’d get to experience the fun, the excited look at each other’s faces, the angst, and drunk people partying like it’s the end of the world tomorrow, not mentioning the flirting going on while the party is on.
If you are one of the people who love to drink and party every night, this is the hostel that you should go to! Great night and new friends assured!
The Halloween Party at the hostel was totally jampacked with people, in-house guest or not, everyone was welcome. People kept coming in, the bar was full, and the crowd was dancing and shouting in unison. Just imagine how fun it was during that time – and there was a lot of people for that particular day, maybe more than 150+ people came in and out of the Mad Monkey Hostel Bar, maybe even 200.
Here are some photos I was able to take when the Halloween Party is on-going.

Getting to Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay from Caticlan Airport

Flying from Manila and arriving at Caticlan airport by night is not unusual. However, upon exiting the arrivals area, there will be locals that will ask you to avail their transport directly to your hotel. It may be convenient but this offer is more expensive than you can think of. So here what you need to know.
mad-monkey-hostel-boracay-the-best-party-hostel-in-boracay-island
1. Exiting from the arrivals area of Caticlan Airport, there will be a terminal waiting for passengers. If you want to do it the cheapest way, hire a tricycle going to Caticlan Port. ₱100/tricycle good for 3.
2. Once you have arrived at the Caticlan Port, you will be required to pay a Terminal Fee of ₱100 pesos, Environmental Fee of ₱75 pesos, and Boat fee of ₱25 pesos before you could enter the port. Make sure to keep the receipts and fill out the small information sheet before you head to the boat. From Caticlan Port to Boracay by boat is only 10 mins. That’s a total of ₱200.
3. From Cagban Jetty Port (Boracay) to Mad Monkey Hostel, hire a tricycle. This will cost you 150 per one way ride. Most drivers know the location of any hotels. This is a 10-15 minutes ride depending on the traffic.
A cheaper alternative is to watch out for minicabs. These minicabs will only cost you ₱25 pesos per ride to Mad Monkey Hostel and can drop you off at the front of the hostel.

Recommendations to Future Travelers and Clients of the Hostel

If you want to have a party like no other, Mad Monkey Hostel is the best place for you. The bar, the people, the vibes, everything just works well together to create a summer feel even if you travel on a rainy season.
If you are a silent person and just looking for a quiet time on the island, then you still could stay here and go out at night. With only about $10 – $15 a night, you surely will experience a great stay.
The party and music start at 2 pm and stops at 1 or 2 am depending on the mood of the crowd.
mad-monkey-hostel-boracay-the-best-party-hostel-in-boracay-island
Couples are surely welcome! You may not have the grandeur view of the beach outside your window, you will have a good time chatting with people, getting to know them and their story, and make friends along your stay.
Traveling with a child, however, is not that great. With the kind of crowd the hostel have in the evening especially at the bar, it is not recommended to stay with a child. For the reason that there might be people making out at the bar or at the pool, or sometimes having sex in some areas as well. Having sex and getting nude at the bar and the pool area is also prohibited by the way. If you’re going to do that, go get a room!
You’ll also love the vibe that the staff of Mad Monkey Hostel possesses. The energy and enthusiasm never cease so it’ll be fun to have a small talk with them about what they have been doing by the day and what they feel about their job and the people. It’s always fun to get insights about the party crowd. LOL!
