7 Tips For A Post-Lockdown London Trip

With life on lockdown in most countries around the world, it’s obvious that most people’s immediate travel plans are on pause.
And if you’re working from home with kids in tow, canceled summer vacations plus restricted time outdoors minus friends equals a whole heap of family disharmony.
However, promising you’ll take a family trip as soon as it’s possible is one way to restore peace and positivity – and perhaps no global capital has as many eclectic attractions as London.

With that in mind, here are seven tips for a post-lockdown London trip.

  1. Grab cheap flights

If you’re eagle-eyed and move fast, you might be able to grab cheap London flights on Skyscanner when restrictions are lifted.
There are many flight comparison services online, but this is one of the longest established and most powerful – give it a whirl once routes reopen.

  1. Stay at a cool hotel

London accommodation can be pricey if you’re not careful, but economical options are available.

A hop-on, hop-off London bus tour is one of the best ways to see the UK capital’s main tourist attractions in as short a time as possible.
Hopefully when lockdown eases, many firms will start their engines again, perhaps with some social distancing in place for peace of mind – check sites like bigbustours.com for the latest updates.

  1. Visit the West End

Yearning for suave shops and eclectic entertainment? Then a visit to London’s West End is a must – Covent Garden and Leicester Square are the capital’s entertainment heartland and the retail therapy in Oxford Street, Bond Street and Regent Street is second to none.
Quick tip – order a London Visitor Oyster Card before you arrive for cut-price travel around the city.

  1. Sample the Brixton Vibes

  1. Fly on the Emirates Air Line

The Emirates Air Line is an excellent alternative the London Eye – situated at the Royal Docks, this scenic cable car takes you on a long ride over the River Thames which affords amazing views of the entire city.

Online Games That Make Time Travel Possible

Okay, so actual time travel is still some way off being a possibility, but there are a whole host of online games out there that do the next best thing: taking their players back in time, to the age of ancient civilizations, such as Ancient China, the Incas, the Aztecs, and many more.
Here we give a rundown of just some of the online games that have the power to whisk gamers away on a wild ride back through the epochs. Which ones will you put on your to-play list?

Aztec runes and imagery make for incredible settings and backdrops in some of these online games, which do their best to accurately bring the time period to life in digital form

Classic Games Love South and Central American History

Whether it is the Incas or the Aztecs, classic online games such as slots and arcade games just cannot get enough of the ancient civilizations that used to rule large swathes of South and Central America. Classics games that managed a true emulation of the Aztec Empire include the likes of video slot Aztec Explorer and the game known simply as Aztec, the latter being a title that has endured in the hearts of online gamers since its release in 1982 on the Commodore 64 and Atari.
Meanwhile, the Incas were getting their historical dues thanks to games like Age of Empires II HD: The Forgotten, which included a special map that was dedicated to recreating the high-altitude settlements that the Incas were renowned for, in what is now known as Peru.
Another classic video game that also used elements of Inca and Aztec culture was Tomb Raider, as Lara Croft showed off her acrobatic skills to help players unlock some of the secrets that these civilizations had kept hidden for hundreds or even thousands of years.

The Acropolis makes appearances in many games, and who can blame games developers for using the architectural wonder, which is still as awe-inspiring today as it ever was

Ancient Egypt’s Cleopatra and Pyramids – The Perfect Gaming Backdrops

Ancient Egypt and all the tall tales and mythology that surround it have always fascinated online game designers, who will do anything to try and infuse their titles with a bit of the magic that is conjured by the likes of Cleopatra, the pharaohs, and their incredible pyramids.
Just some of the games that will thrust players back to that magical passage of time are Lara Croft and The Temple Of Osiris, Sid Meier’s Civilization V, and Assassin’s Creed Origins. The developers of the Assassin’s Creed game did a particular stellar job of bringing this ancient world to life, allowing players to explore Cairo, the Nile, and lots of things in between. The game is so accurate that Egyptologists have even been using the game in some quarters to teach people about the ways of the Ancient Egyptians, showing that such games can be just as informative as they are entertaining.

Roman Empire – A Gaming Favorite

One of the first historical epochs that game developers turn to is that of the Roman Empire, partly because of how technologically advanced the civilization was and partly due to the popularity that surrounds stories connected to men like Julius Cesar, Maximus Decimus Meridius, and Emperor Marcus Aurelius. This has meant that any game released with the promise of bringing Roman legions and gladiators to life will always sell a decent number of units, even if it then flops in online reviews and blogs.

READ: Best App To Discover New Games On Mobile

Some of the very best Roman-themed video games include Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, Assassin’s Creed: Origins and Rome: Total War. Because Roman emperors and commanders were so well known for their tactical abilities in the heat of battle, it makes sense that many RPG and strategy titles have been sent out into the world. There are even more on the way as well, with upcoming titles including We Are Legion: Rome and Romans: Age of Caesar.

Taiwan Travel Tips:

• We visited Taiwan last March, spring season and tinapat talaga namin sa Pingxi Lantern Festival sa Taiwan and unexpectedly sa travel date namin may mga event sa may Yehliu and Fo Guang Shan.
The weather there last March was around 18 degrees at night and 23 degrees in morning (Sa Taipei and Taichung lang). DIY Taiwan Travel Guide
• For faster travel to Taichung and Kaoshiung, book ahead of time at Klook.com and use my promo code 9K1HM to get more than P100 discount, instead of purchasing single journey like what we did, use the high-speed train unlimited pass na lang para mas makamura. What we did is that we booked another night para we can early check-in after our arrival in Taipei, pero you can stay naman sa airport until 6am, yung pocket wifi sa Klook maavail niyo lang siya after 3am ata.
— Discounted Taiwan High-Speed Rail Ticket from Taipei (KKday)
— 5 Day Joint Train Pass (THSR+TR) via Klook
• Communication barrier? Kaya ma-achieve ang communication with the locals if you have Internet for translation. Super friendly sila despite the barrier.
• Internet? If sa Taipei ka lang naman, no need na to buy simcard kasi sobrang daming wifi sa paligid. But if you need one – Taiwan Unlimited 4G Portable Wi-Fi Rental via KKday (P138)

• Immigration? They’re not strict, pero sa Pilipinas strict kapag 1st time traveler ka, just make sure nakapag-book na kayo ng hotel online. DIY Taiwan Travel Guide

Where to stay?

We stayed at Muiu Inn, a private room, with free breakfast and allow early check in. Almost 600 meters from Taipei Main Station, keri naman lakarin. We stayed around there kasi accessible sa mga buses and train but if you prefer shopping, you can stay around Ximending
— Chia Rong Hostel (Highly Recommended Spot)
You can book at Booking.com or Agoda
Price: ₱1,131/Night (Private Room)
— Homey Hostel
You can book via Booking.com or Agoda
Price:₱900/Night (Bunk Beds)
*They also offer private rooms
— Taipei City Home
You can book at Booking.com or Agoda
Price: ₱957/Night (Bunk Beds)
*They also offer private rooms
— Main Inn Taipei 梅樓驛站
You can book at Booking.com or Agoda
Price:₱713/Night (Bunk Beds)
*They also offer private rooms
• Exchange Rate? Our exchange rate was 1.95!!! Don’t exchange sa Philippines airport, hanap kayo outside aiport para mas maraming ma-baon sa Taiwan, and ang alam ko sa airport ka lang sa Taoyuan pwedeng magpapalit ng Php. If not, you have to have dollars on hand so make sure na nakapag-exchange kana sa Philippines.
• If you’ll just visit Taipei, mas makakamura ka sa gastos pero mas okay na i-explore mo na ang buong Taiwan using the high-speed train. You can also explore different days of visit sa Kaoshiung, pwede mo siyang gawing day 1 etc., cause in our case kelangan day 2 talaga namin yung Shifen because of the Pingxi Lantern Festival.
• Hindi rin ganun ka-mahal sa Taiwan unlike sa Hongkong and Singapore. Cheaper ang Taiwan.

TIPS FOR TAIPEI CITY, NEW TAIPEI, TAICHUNG, & KAOHSIUNG

📍Day 1 (Taipei)

• We visited Taiwan last March 5 and we’re supposed to go at Tianyuan temple to catch cherry blossoms there, pero wala pa daw cherry blossoms, so we ended up at Yangminshan. DIY Taiwan Travel Guide

• Tips for Yangminshan Park

• Sobrang hirap sumakay ng bus papuntang Yangminshan, you have to wait for 15-30 mins bago may dumating na bus. Mali rin nababaan namin sa Yangminshan, you need to ride another bus para makapunta dun sa may mga fog.
• We’re also supposed to go sa mga Meteor Garden loc, Longshan Temple and Taipei 101 pero kulang na sa time. So gumising ng maaga

📍Day 2 (New Taipei)

• Medyo hassle papuntang Shifen, so make sure alam niyo talaga yung mga time ng train para hindi sayang waiting time. Ilang beses kaming naligaw dito and na-delay  Better to book na lang din through Klook para less hassle.
• Must explore Shilin Market at night (Mas madami daw food dun)

📍Day 3 (Taichung)

Taiwan Itinerary 4d4n Taipei Taichung Kaohsiung Diy Taiwan Travel Guide 2018 Travel Tips

• Mura ang bus papuntang Taichung pero dapat alam mo yung oras ng alis kasi medyo late na kami nakaalis. Better if mag high speed train na lang.
• RENT A CAR!
I think sobrang hirap sa Taichung kung wala kang car kasi magkakalayo talaaga yung mga places, lalo na kung pupunta ka sa Nantou area, better if you hire a driver. DIY Taiwan Travel Guide
• Although, we didn’t rent a car from Taipei, instead we rented a car when we were already in Taichung. We don’t have any plans, nakahanap lang kami randomly ng taxi sa tabi-tabi pero mahirap siya kasi karamihan hindi marunong mag-english, better if humanap ka dito ng driver.
• I can recommend our girl driver, we’re supposed to go at Houli farm pero kulang na sa time. We got her for 3500NTD including Nantou. Here are her contact details: 0932624946 (Taiwanese, no communication barrier and very recommended).

📍 Day 4 (Kaoshiung)

-Sobrang INIT sa Kaoshiung, almost 32 degrees dun!
-Try to explore other night markets like the Ruifang Market
-Sulit sa Fo Guang Shan, you can spend 3 hours there, okay na.
-Sobrang init sa Lotus Pond DIY Taiwan Travel Guide
-You can also visit Cijin Island (which is hindi namin nagawa)
So ayun muntik na kaming maiwan ng flight, cause we missed the last train trip to Taoyuan Airport. You guys should know first the schedule of high speed train. Thankfully, there’s still a train to Taichung and our driver from Day 3 (Taichung) dropped us at the Taichung Bus Station, Ubus name ng Bus, malayo siya from THSR, need niyong mag-taxi to bus station (Ni-refund na lang namin train ticket sa klook, Travel by bus is 2 hours kasi midnight, so we made it)
Taiwan never failed to amaze us, and I’m sure you will too! Feel free to PM Xzarriane Lim if you have questions.

Tips for Flying that Every Anxious Person Will Appreciate

Although the thought of riding on a plane could be a bliss for some, others take it as a frightening experience. Often, the level of nervousness varies from person to person. While some may feel a slight fright, some may feel a terror so intense that they may opt not to push through with their flight.
According to Lola.com, about 2.5% to 6.5% of the population suffers from what we call as “aviophobia”, or fear of flying.
Whether you’re a first-time plane rider or someone who has been struggling with flight anxiety for a long time, knowing the best ways to ease your worries and combat your anxiety is necessary. Below is a roundup of the best flight tips for anxious travelers. Continue reading to learn more.

Tips for Flying that Every Anxious Person Will Appreciate

Flight Anxiety – What Is It?

To simply explain, flight anxiety is the excessive worry people often feel when they’re about to take a flight, and it is described by One Medical to be “so profound that it can prevent a person from traveling by air, or causes great distress to a person when air travel is necessary.”
Often, the extreme sense of fear and panic is fueled by thoughts of possible crashing, fear of the unknown, fear of losing control, and more.

Try to Exercise Before Your Flight

Believe it or not, merely packing and picking up your last-minute essentials isn’t enough to prepare you for your flight anxiety. For better chances of combating your fear of flying it’s best to conduct a pre-flight exercise.
Sure, although adding another preparatory task before your flight may seem like a hassle, this will benefit you greatly, especially if you’re an anxious traveler.
Specifically, putting your body at work for as little as 30 minutes can help boost your mood, put you in a relaxed state, and make you feel more comfortable while traveling.

Distract Yourself

Once you get on a plane, it’s normal to feel a bit tense and a little panicky. To overcome these anxious feelings, try to distract yourself by doing something else, such as listening to a podcast, reading a book, watching a film, or more.
By doing any of these, you’ll get to focus on other things and distract yourself from overthinking the possible worst-case scenarios.
This tip will work best if you have a list of things you can do while on the plane. Before your actual flight, create a checklist of the things you want to accomplish and try to stick with it.

Be Honest

When it comes to dealing with anxiety, becoming honest with the people around you comes as a necessity. Not only will it help you combat the heightened feeling of isolation, but it can also help you feel less scared knowing you’re not alone in your struggles.
With this, it’s best to tell your companions, as well as the flight attendants on the plane, about your condition. This will make you feel more secure knowing the people around you are willing to help in case you feel trapped in a dangerous situation.

Practice Deep Breathing

Tips for Flying that Every Anxious Person Will Appreciate

Another tip you might want to take note of is to be aware of your breathing pattern when on a plane. Specifically, try to take a long, deep breath during takeoffs and whenever you feel panicky during the flight. This will help trigger the calming response of your mind and body.
Try to maintain a relaxed posture, keep your feet apart, and breathe deeply and slowly. Breathe in through your nose, counting up to five, and out through your mouth, counting another five again. You can repeat this for three to five minutes until you feel more relaxed and comfortable.

The Bottom Line

Combating anxiety isn’t easy, but with the right help and determination, everything is possible. Don’t let your fear of flying stop you from enjoying the most out of your well-deserved vacation or trip.
To know more, feel free to consult your doctor days before your actual flight. You can also ask for possible medication that you can use while on your trip. For additional help with your anxiety, consider consulting a counselor at BetterHelp.

Born for the Kitchen: Chef Jasper Versoza and His Tasteful Pursuit of Culinary Excellence

Growing up in a family with a strong passion for food and a catering business, it was easy for Chef Jasper Versoza to figure out his dream. When he was a kid, the smell of freshly cooked dishes was giving him a different kind of excitement. His appetite for excellence, however, motivated him to learn more. He knew he could only find it outside their home kitchen.

Wine tasting in Napa Valley

“I knew I wanted to cook since I can remember. But I wanted more than that. It has always been my desire to give unique twists to dishes and make food experience more satisfying,” said Chef Jasper Versoza, Executive Chef of Josiah’s Catering.
Chef Jasper has always been hungry for new knowledge. He believes that continuous learning is essential to success and important to offer something original to foodies. Despite his exposure to their catering business, he strived to broaden his experience and refine his culinary and entrepreneurial skills at the Center for Culinary Arts, Manila.

Hawker in Singapore

“I had to get the best training I could to become the professional chef I have always dreamed of – innovative and explorative. The journey was tough, but it’s all worth it. I have learned a lot about culinary in both theory and practice. Most importantly, I was able to apply everything I have learned in our catering business,” Chef Jasper shared.
True enough, his education enabled him to improve the quality of service of Josiah’s Catering by adopting the latest food and catering equipment as well as following the best practices in culinary arts. Chef Jasper, however, believes that learning shouldn’t stop there. He must explore beyond the kitchen and the classroom. So, he goes to places.

Exploring Food from Different Places and Taking Inspirations

For Chef Jasper, food and geography are related to each other. So, he explores places – both local and international – to taste what each destination has to offer.

Ted’s Steamed Burger in Connecticut

“If I want to innovate and serve new food experiences, I have to get out of the kitchen and travel find inspirations. Different places offer different tastes. It’s up for you to find it,” Chef Jasper explained.
When he travels, Chef Jasper looks for new inspirations, which he applies to his food creations as part of his desire to innovate. He does not only explore food and cuisines, but he also immerses in different cultures to gain new ideas he can mix with his food and restaurant concepts.
He added, “The amount of inspirations and knowledge you can acquire by traveling is amazing. Each time I visit a destination, I make sure that I take home new ideas to experiment on.”
Through his relentless explorations of culinary experiences, Chef Jasper and his siblings were able to introduce innovative restaurant concepts that offer unique gastronomic experiences. One of which is the newly launched Sartin at Summit Ridge Tagaytay. It gives Filipino cuisine a unique twist that’s perfect to complement the cool weather in Tagaytay. It is also the company’s first venture into food and business operations management through its subsidiary Josiah’s Hospitality Management, which is focused on hotels management and food and beverage operations for hotels and resorts.

Another popular restaurant is Fat Daddy’s Smokehouse – a Southern USA-inspired smokehouse and barbecue restaurant that serves perfectly smoked pork ribs, smoked beef brisket, smoked wings and more. It now has branches in Marikina City and at UP Town Center in Katipunan, Quezon City.
Today, Chef Jasper is responsible for the research and development of Josiah’s Catering and its branches of concept restaurant. He makes sure that the quality of food they offer remains world-class and carries the signature taste of Josiah’s.

“Together with my siblings, we are expanding the Josiah’s brand with more distinct restaurant concepts that promise a gastronomic experience that is rewarding and world-class,” Chef Jasper said.

Welsh travels: The not-so-obvious need-to-knows

If you’re from the UK, a trip to Wales is almost part of growing up. Most ‘locals’ appreciate the beauty – and will sporadically visit to take advantage. When it comes to foreign visitors, the country can sometimes get forgotten.
Naturally, it plays second fiddle to the likes of London, and getting a tourist from abroad to fly into Heathrow and then make the trip to Wales is easier said than done.
However, perhaps it should be encouraged more. If you are about to land on UK soil, Wales is something that can transform your trip and allow it to sway away from the norm. Today, we’ll talk about some of the reasons why.

Photo by Stuart Smith on Unsplash

It’s much, much cheaper

Need a hotel in London? You know all about the cost repercussions.
How about one in Wales? Now we’re talking. The cost of staying in Wales is significantly cheaper, and this also spans to its attractions. Put simply, Wales is a more affordable alternative and while there are regions that are most definitely set up for tourists, these will still cost much less than a trip to the English capital.

It’s a new language to understand

First and foremost, English is widely spoken in Wales, so you don’t need to have any concerns about that. Something that surprises a lot of visitors is the Welsh language though. It is spoken – and it greets you as soon as you hit the roads. It’s a massive ‘culture hello’ as soon as you land, so you might even do well to have a couple of common phrases up your sleeve, if you’re feeling brave about trying the dialect yourself!

Historically, it is a dream

Photo by Julian Rayar on Unsplash

In truth, the whole of the UK is blessed with attractions that are historical gems. Fortunately, if you narrow down your stay to Wales, the same can be said. For those of you who really want to sample as much history as possible, consider something like Cardiff Castle which is one of the biggest of its kind in the country. However, things don’t stop there. There are umpteen smaller ruins that are scattered around Wales and many of these do not require an entry fee.
If you’re comfortable with driving (they also drive on the left side), we would encourage you to take a small road trip around the country. You might get lost, but chances are, you’ll stumble on plenty of castle ruins that will make your trip fascinating.

The countryside is something else

Photo by Callum Blacoe on Unsplash

Whether it’s national parks (they cover 20% of the whole country!) or just the overall countryside, this is something to be blown away by. Wales has it all out in the sticks and as above, we would encourage you to simply get lost. Whether it’s a road trip, hike or train (this can be a particular highlight through the valleys), you’ll set eyes on sights that you would have never associated with this part of the world.

It also contains vibrance

While we have made a lot of noise about the Welsh countryside, its urban qualities should not be forgotten either. For example, take to Swansea or Cardiff, and you’ll be met with all of the “big city highlights” that most in the world have. There are great restaurants, nightlife, and a general good vibe; Wales is not a one-trick, countryside pony by any stretch of the imagination.

Makiling Onsen Hotel | Quick Japanese Staycation | Hotel Review

I didn’t tell Jane, my girlfriend, where would we be heading. It was a surprise. I just told her we’re going somewhere far south. It was already weeks since we went somewhere away from Manila. My feet were itching to go somewhere new. Someplace we could experience another culture within our grounds. My mind wanders away when I am in the office, imagining we’d go somewhere and get lost.

Makiling Onsen Hotel - www.twobudgettravelers.com

I decided to look for Japanese themed resorts that will definitely fit my taste. I had been to Japan as my first international travel and was wondering if we could experience the same within the Philippines, and I wasn’t wrong. I kept on searching until I found one I was aiming for, the Makiling Onsen Hotel located in Los Banos, Laguna.

The trip from Buendia, Manila went over 2 hours due to traffic but it was cool. Supposedly, we should be at the resort by 2 in the afternoon but she was late and rush hour period already set in. We arrived at the hotel around 4-5 in the afternoon.

Makiling Onsen Hotel

Makiling Onsen Hotel from the outside was just like the onsen (hot spring) houses I’ve seen from Kinosaki in Japan. It looked authentic somehow. That was quite remarkable. The facade looked good with anchored woods, Japanese lettering bearing the name Makiling Onsen, and statues that are looking like the ones from Japan. This resort hotel offers traditional Japanese atmosphere that is good for people who needs to go away from the crowd and wanted to experience a little bit of Japan without flying from the Philippines.

Makiling Onsen Hotel - www.twobudgettravelers.com

Makiling Onsen Hotel - www.twobudgettravelers.com

Entering the onsen hotel, on the right is the entrance and their restaurant, Azabu Restaurant, that offers Filipino and Japanese specialties. On the left are the pool area, parking area, function hall, and the onsen (hot spring).

Upon entry, we were greeted nicely by the front desk staffs. Immediately, I brought out my booking papers. After verifying my details, we were then guided to our room. Luckily, from a budget room (Japanese futon-style), ours were upgraded to Twin Bed (as it was the only upgrade available) and we were good with it. And oh, the front desk area has Japanese samurai figures and little things about Japan. We get to have our breakfast voucher and the onsen pass for the night.

Do not forget to ask for Yukata (Japanese traditional dress) for a whole Japanese experience! You can wear your yukata every time you like. We had it on from our room to the pool, to the onsen rooms, and until we get to eat our breakfast in the morning. Jane loved it!

Remember the freebies: Yukata, Free Breakfast for two, and Onsen Pass.

Makiling Onsen Hotel - www.twobudgettravelers.com

Makiling Onsen Hotel - www.twobudgettravelers.com

Our room was on the 3rd floor. It was equipped with two beds, sofa, refrigerator, wardrobe, dining area, an in-room shower and comfort room, and a balcony. The balcony was a plus as you will be able to see the mountains and the road directly in front of you. Across the street was also the Splash Mountain Resort. The top floor has a gym facility and a room for dining – Japanese style.

Makiling Onsen Hotel wouldn’t name it with “onsen” or hot-spring for no reason. They provide Japanese hot-spring alike experience to those of who wanted to avail service. You can still avail and experience onsen even when you’ve not booked a room. It’s open until 10 pm. You have to tell the front desk at least 1 hour prior to availing the service so they can get your onsen room hot and steamy. Before that, we spent our time in the pool for ourselves.

The Onsen Area

Onsen area for Makiling Onsen Hotel is located above the parking area and beside the pool area. The rooms are not quite big, just enough for two to five people at most. Having experienced onsen in Japan, the experience here is almost quite the same even though the room is practically small.

There are two rooms available. One for men and one for female. Originally, men and women are in separate rooms, especially if in groups. However, since we are a couple, it was turned into a private bath for us, just the two of us. Yes! You can use the whole facility for whole one hour.

Makiling Onsen Hotel - www.twobudgettravelers.com

Since I knew how onsens work and with the dos and don’t, I told her that stuff. Don’t worry, there are instructions on the locker room before you enter the onsen. You have to wash your body first before entering onto the onsen as well.

It was around 35-45 degrees Celcius hot so be careful when you dip in. You have to dip in slowly in order for your body to adjust the temperature. Hot springs are known for their therapeutic and positive effects on skin and one’s self. It will help with one’s blood flow circulation. Soothes soaring muscles and helps with the colds. All in all, it gives about a positive outcome for your body. However, if you feel like you’re palpitating already, move out from the pool and stay in the locker area until you feel relieved and dip again.

It was a really good one hour in the onsen! Muscle sores were gone after the dip and I felt rejuvenated as well. Just like when I was in Japan. This was such a great feeling!

Azabu Restaurant

The Azabu Restaurant is located downstairs, from the entrance to the right. They offer Filipino and Japanese cuisines. Breakfast menus include dish-“silogs” like tocilog, tapsilog, hotsilog, and much more. Japanese cuisines also come with a variety like ramen, yakisoba, their bento’s, etc.

Makiling Onsen Hotel - www.twobudgettravelers.com

Makiling Onsen Hotel - www.twobudgettravelers.com

For our breakfast, we had silogs. Before we left, we also had Ramen and a bento for lunch. It was sumptuous. Delicious. Yum! The ramen tasted authentic and it was really good! We’re stuffed and ready for the next surprise destination, the Isdaan Floating Resto – Park.

How to get to Makiling Onsen Hotel?

From Cubao or Buendia bus stations, ride a bus bound to Sta. Cruz (Laguna) and tell the driver or conductor to drop you off at Splash Mountain. In front of Splash Mountain Resort is the Makiling Onsen Hotel.

Earn While Traveling: How to Become a Certified English Teacher and Teach English Anywhere

In order to become a certified English teacher able to teach English anywhere in the world, you will need to have a TEFL certification, which stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate.

READ: Online Virtual Assistant Jobs Hiring – How To Apply?

Nearly all online teaching companies will list this as a requirement for employment and even if they do not list it, it is likely that there will be several people who will apply for the same job together with you.
A TEFL certificate is essentially the process of gaining knowledge and skills that are needed for you to be a good teacher, either online or in a classroom. Read on to learn how you can earn while traveling as an English teacher.

Premier TEFLThe TEFL Certification

For you to attain this certification, you have to choose between two main options: an online course or a classroom-based course. A classroom-based course offers a great way of getting hands-on practice that is required for teaching.

So, if you want to go this way, simply look for courses that include the practical component or TEFL for real ESL students. It also offers you the opportunity to get some real feedback about your teaching from the trainers who will be training you.

Online TEFL course

This is usually done and completed from home. Its format does make sense, especially if you will be doing online teaching once you are done.
Ensure that you find a company that offers TEFL courses and also includes either a module or an add-on course for how you can teach English online.

What Does the Course Entail?

Premier TEFL Accredited Courses
TEFL is an umbrella name that features all courses required to teach English to students of all ages, who do not have English as their first language, which means that they could be from any country of the world.
This is a good job that offers you the opportunity to travel or you can stay at home and teach from there if you wish to do so.

Travel Perks for Certified English Teachers

One of the greatest perks of being a TEFL Certified English teacher is the opportunity to travel. There are plenty of job opportunities both in the U.S. and overseas. However, in most cases you will be required to travel.
The reason behind this is that most countries where English is not their first language are struggling to learn the language and have been employing English teachers for a while. As such, you will be required to travel.
Spain Internship
The opportunities for this job are usually advertised by recruitment agencies and career services in the national newspapers, and online publications. These are the main places where you should look for work if your desire is to work as an English teacher.

Qualifications Required

It is extremely possible to become a TEFL/TESL Certified English teacher even without a degree, although employers will typically prefer graduates who have attained this certification.

Typically, online English teachers are likely to make anywhere between $10 and $40 USD per hour, depending on their expertise and level of qualification.
If you happen to be a first-time teacher and have a TEFL Certification, your first payment will be between $10 and $20 each hour in the beginning.
There are so many platforms online that will offer you different pay rates, and if you happen to travel to a foreign country, the pay will be dependent on your employer.

Aside from the sparkling white sand beach, there also are a lot of activities to choose from, hence, the reason why Boracay has always been hailed on the top list of best islands in the world by every publication. Before you go to this alluring island, make sure to read the dos and donts and make yourself informed about the current events in Boracay.
Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay - https://twobudgettravelers.com
If you’re looking for a place to stay where comfort, luxury, a place to find friends, and not that too expensive, Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay is what we recommend.
[hoops name=”InArticle”]

Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay

Mad Monkey Hostel is a chain of hostel that provides great competitive prices for backpackers with a touch of luxury and comfort. They currently have eight (8) hostels in Southeast Asia including Cambodia, Thailand, the Philippines and they are still expanding. Not only that, Mad Monkey Hostel is known for its name because of the party vibe and undeniable friendship you can get from fellow travelers booked from all over the world. This hostel chain also helps the communities they are located in.
Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay is situated just 2 minutes away from Bulabog Beach and around 5 to 10 minutes walk to the main beach and or D-Mall in Station 2. Location is convenient enough to explore both Bulabog Beach and main beach Stations 1 and 2. We had no problems navigating from one place to another from the hostel.

Getting there from Caticlan Airport

Flying from Manila and arriving at Caticlan airport by night is not unusual. However, upon exiting the arrivals area, there will be locals that will ask you to avail their transport directly to your hotel. It may be convenient but this offer is more expensive than you can think of. So here what you need to know.
1. Exiting from the arrivals area of Caticlan Airport, turn to the right side of the road or ask a local where to find the tricycle heading to Caticlan Port. This ride will only cost you 50 pesos, max of four people per tricycle.
2. Once you have arrived at the Caticlan Port, you will be required to pay a Terminal Fee of 100 pesosEnvironmental Fee of 75 pesos, and Boat fee of 30 pesos before you could enter the port. Make sure to keep the receipts and fill out the small information sheet before you head to the boat. From Caticlan Port to Boracay by boat is only 10 mins.
NOTE: Children below 5 years old are free of charge for the additional fees.
3. From Cagban Jetty Port (Boracay) to Mad Monkey Hostel, hire a tricycle. This will cost you around 100 to 150 per one way ride. Most drivers know the location of any hotels. This is a 10-15 minutes ride depending on the traffic.
Looking at this commute route to Boracay Island and to Mad Monkey Hostel, this is way cheaper and faster as you won’t have to wait for the van from Caticlan airport to fill up.

Arriving at Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay

Upon arrival, we were greeted by their receptionist with a big smile. She immediately asked for our name and reservation, asked for each of our identification cards (IDs) and handed us over the room keys. Please do note that they will be keeping your IDs and will require you to pay 200 pesos for the key deposit, which isn’t bad at all.

We have arrived in the evening and the party has been going on for a while. Don’t be shocked! This is a party hostel. 🙂 Of course, we’re seeing people having fun at the bar, drinking, chatting, dancing like crazies, beer-ponging, swimming at the pool and shouting, but that’s what this hostel is about, having fun while taking your vacation!
At first, you will really maybe a bit shocked because of the loud music and guests having a good time, this is going on almost every night so if you will be staying for quite long, you will eventually get used to it and in no time, you will be a part of the partying crowd. The party starts as early as 2 pm (or later) and the music is being cut by 12 midnight.

Room Talk: Superior Double Room (Private)

The room that was booked for us was the Superior Double Room, a private room located on the ground floor of the hostel building. This room is one of the rooms with easy access to amenities like the bar, lounge, and the swimming pool.
The room has a glass door and the front walls are made of glass but worry not, as there will be a black curtain to help keep your privacy. I think the reason the front walls are made of glass is to help with soundproofing. The music could really be loud especially during the night so the glass helps to keep the sound from outside be heard inside.
[hoops name=”InArticle”]
It comes with a hot and cold shower, air conditioning, and some toiletries. Room design was simple and yet cozy, like a typical hotel room but with accents of summer and the beach. We loved that the bed foam is soft and comfortable to sleep in. The concrete walls are not well-polished but it adds to the overall design of the room. The air conditioning could really be cold especially during the night. It has enough space to move in which is good for people with huge pieces of luggage.
Dorm Beds are also available. You can book a bed for as low as $8 to $10 a night. At that price, you could still enjoy the amenities of the hostel.

Food Talk: Mad Monkey Hostel Serves Big

Mad Monkey Hostels cover most food choices for all of the nationalities. There are good choices for breakfasts, lunch, and dinner, and most especially drinks (alcoholic or not). The price point is also good for the serving. The food will also be served fresh and hot as they will be made to order. Meal prices are ranging from only $3 to $5 with a big serving.

If you’re a vegan, they have that on the menu. If you’re looking for more meaty kind of meal, they have that too. If you’re a conscious one about your body, they have a meal appropriate for that. They even have a meal for the bodybuilders and protein shakes too.

Amenities and Activities at Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay

As mentioned above, Mad Monkey Hostel provides a luxurious experience at a backpacker’s price point of view.
Swimming Pool: A hostel with a huge swimming pool enough to cover pool parties. Nice, eh!
Roofdeck Spa: Mad Monkey also offers spa and massage to stay-in guests and outsiders.
Bar: A breakfast location during the day and a party area at night.
Tattoo Studio: Get your own tattoo at this hostel too.
Booze Cruise: A boat party for everyone who’d like to have fun. We hadn’t done this unfortunately because our schedule in Boracay was full of activities during the day but we would have loved to join on one.
WiFi: Enough speed to post your selfies and some videos.
Lounge Area: For people who’d like to chill, read a book, or chat with a friend. This place is perfect for you. Almost empty during the night as people are busy partying.
If there are activities I missed, please let me know in the comments.

Inputs and Recommendations for Future Travelers

Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay is great for single people or those who are keen to meet new people and always ready to mingle. If you’re the type of person to chit chat, party, and always looking forward to hanging out with people, the place is perfect for you!
If you are a soul-searching type of traveler and wants peace and serenity, don’t book in here unless you want to go partying and meeting new people to make friends.

Couples, on the other hand, could either enjoy or detest their stay at the hostel. It really depends on the type of couple you are. If you are a couple looking for a serene place to chill and relax, Mad Monkey Hostel could be a turn off for you. But if you are a couple game to anything like chatting random people and partying during the night, this will be the best choice!
Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay - https://twobudgettravelers.com
If you’re traveling with a child, you might be better off staying at another hotel. Mad Monkey Hostel Boracay might not be that kid-friendly enough and the party atmosphere starts early afternoon which could make your child uncomfortable. The hostel and their atmosphere are most suitable for grown-ups looking for fun, party, and travelers looking forward to having a great time while in the hostel.
Will we stay again at Mad Monkeys? Definitely a yes! We’d like to try partying with other people the next time we stay as our energies have been drained during the day because of whole day activities. The staff in the hostel are awesome and friendly and could be your buddies when outside the facility.
