If moving were easy, we all might do it more often to see more of the world and have new experiences. Some people have nomadic spirits, but they tend to collect fewer possessions and so might find moving simpler. For the majority, though, the idea of uprooting your life and changing everything is not one we relish.
But sometimes moving is unavoidable. In this post, we’ll look at ways to make the process easier and less stressful.
Start By Getting Enough Supplies
Are you going to have some mammoth packing sessions when everything gets packed in one go? If so, make sure you have enough boxes, packing tape, packing material, etc., to do the job. Should you need to stop halfway through to go to the store, it can destroy momentum.
Give Yourself Enough Time
Of course, not everyone has the time or energy to set aside for a big packing session. Maybe you can’t take time off work, or you are exhausted when you knock off work. Give yourself plenty of time to pack if this is the case.
Start the packing especially for fitness equipment moving a few weeks beforehand rather than leaving everything to the last minute.
Get That Change of Address In On Time
You don’t want to have to worry about where your latest bill is or hassle with sending in a change of address when you’re trying to settle into your new home. Get a head start by notifying the companies of your change of address ahead of time, and it’s one less thing to have on your to-do list later.
Downsize If Possible
We all have items that have sentimental value. The jeans that used to fit us in high school and that have been out of style for the last ten years shouldn’t fall into this category. Take this opportunity to get rid of the stuff that doesn’t fit with your new life.
If it’s in good shape, you might be able to sell it. If you can’t be bothered with that, can you pass it on to someone else? Charity shops are always looking for useful items to sell or pass on, so it’s a win-win. You get rid of stuff that you don’t need, and it goes to someone who needs it more.
If something is really in bad shape, tattered or worn out, or completely unrepairable, it’s time to toss it out. It might bother you to get rid of that old VCR player, but how often do you use it? Why carry it to your new life?
Get Organized
You could run around like a chicken without a head come moving day, trying to figure out how to pack the boxes, or trying to find the kettle for a cup of tea. If you organize well, though, you’ll at least have sorted items by type or room before packing, and kept essentials in a separate box.
Moving is hard enough as it is, so, lighten the load by giving yourself plenty of time and getting organized beforehand.
