TRAVEL TIPS: Choosing your boat battery wisely

Deciding on what battery to use is like finding the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, it’s complicated and is in need of much knowledge. It’s a decision that would lead your boating life into a whole other level. That is why, when choosing the right battery, one has to know the basics of boat batteries. Learning the dos and don’ts would save your machinery from overheating and may keep you from being stranded in open water.

Classification of batteries

Just like cars, boat batteries are also invulnerable and durable, they can serve their purpose for quite a long span, however, nothing is forever, and thus, even cells weaken at some point. This is a mindset boat owners should have, maintaining the batteries is one thing, but what actually contributes in the lifespan of a battery is the quality and product itself, choosing the type of battery wisely is what matters most.
But first, boat owners should know the different classifications of batteries, the batteries we are talking about isn’t like the batteries in our remote controls, these cells vary and misusing it would damage both the boat and the battery itself. TheMarineBattery.com is a great resource to help you classify batteries.
Firstly, in order to start up the boat, Cranking battery should be utilized. The battery’s primary purpose is starting up the main engine. They are made slender and more plated, permitting a lot more surface area, thus, making it easier and faster in providing much energy for heavy engines to start up.

In order to choose the right cranking battery, one has to check the boat’s manual on the acclaimed Marine Cranking Amps (MCR) rating first. The rating of the battery should be equivalent or should exceed the suggested value. If not, the boat might not start up or even heat up. Also, it is common logic that due to the substantial power excessed by the cranking battery, it has to be recharged immediately.
The equipment and devices within the boat also have their own type of battery, this is called the Deep-cycle battery. This battery operates solely for the electrical equipment on board, such as your GPS, radios, trolling and other accessories that are in need of not much power. Having to provide electricity for light devices, it functions in a slower rate compared to other batteries, thus, recharging it won’t be as often needed for it lasts longer.
To add up, the cranking battery and the deep-cycle battery shouldn’t be exchanged, for their purpose are different, and the power contained differs. Interchanging the batteries would cause the battery to not serve the right amount energy for the boat to start. However, there is a battery that can do both, this is called the Dual-purpose battery, it can function both as a cranking and a deep-cycle battery, but it still won’t provide the right amount of charges and also discharges as the cranking and deep cycle batteries originally.

Right technology for your battery

After distinguishing the basic types of batteries, boat owners should give time in considering the groups, types, technology, and data codes of the batteries they will be choosing. Why? Because the little-ignored details are what matters most in a battery.
There is such thing as a battery group, these groups are decided to depend on the size of each battery, and it refers to the physical height and width of the allowable space for the battery in your boat. Measuring or checking the manual for the dimensions would save a lot of time when setting it up in your boat.

When choosing the right technology for your battery, it is recommended to go for the Flooded-Electrolyte Batteries, these type of batteries are the deep-rooted standby, therefore providing an even-handed performance with an affordable price. This battery at a high rate, self-discharges. Its manner of maintenance is by inspection and stuffing the electrolyte.
If you are a concern with the acid and would prefer to spend more just to ensure no spill, the Absorbed Glass Matt batteries will be the best technology for you. It uses fiberglass coils drenched with electrolyte, making it fixed so that no acid spill will happen. It also has lower self-discharge rate and has quite more power despite having a secondary footprint.
In buying the battery, just like canned goods, the date of manufacturing should be observed. In batteries, the month is labeled through letters and the year with numbers. The batteries are presented this way, for instance, D2, this means that it was made on the 12th of April, Batteries should last longer, in order to ensure that, always choose the latest and freshest batteries on hand.
The output of the battery should also be in the knowledge of the boat owners. When a battery starts up, it starts up like a burst of power-hungry technology and machines that ta/kes up much watts in seconds. However, with the right information, choosing the battery won’t be as complex.

National Museum exhibit dives deep into the Philippine Rise

Images of the Philippine Rise Marine Resource Reserve, including the pristine Benham Bank, are the newest addition to the collection of the National Museum of Natural History. The exhibit called “The Journey Towards the Protection of the Philippines Rise” brings to the public stunning images and videos of the marine biodiversity and reefscapes of the Philippine Rise, the resource-rich undersea region located within the exclusive economic zone of the Philippine Sea.

The exhibit features a 3D model of the 170 square kilometer Benham Bank, the shallowest point of the larger underwater plateau that is the Philippine Rise. There are numerous photos of the 2016 Benham Rise expedition that explored the deep sea reefs of Benham Bank.
The exhibit was donated by Oceana Philippines to the National Museum last November. It is now available for public viewing.

Jeremy R. Barns, National Museum Director, in a speech read during the opening of the exhibit underscored the protection of the Philippine Rise as a historic accomplishment and the Philippine Rise as natural patrimony.
“This museum of natural history was precisely intended to serve as a center of science and education. This museum has, since its opening last May, also made clear that there is a very deep interest in our natural patrimony among the Filipino people, of all ages and walks of life, and from friends from around the world, evident in the levels of visitor numbers unprecedented in the history of Philippine museums. People are coming in great numbers of thousands per day, and the challenge for us is to take this precious opportunity of the time they freely choose to dedicate within the walls of this special space to transmit the knowledge – the science, the advocacies – to as many as possible – to spark curiosity, to join the dots, to awaken the sense of connection with the world around us – and to facilitate an experience that will hopefully have a lasting impact when they return to the world beyond the museum building,” said Barns.

“We put up this exhibit to show the unique beauty of the Philippine Rise and to let the public understand what this underwater plateau looks like. We want also to document for posterity the journey that led to presidential proclamation on the Philippine Rise as a marine resource reserve. We are proud to be part of the outstanding collaboration of government agencies and institutions from all sectors to champion the protection the Philippine Rise. Its conservation ushers in new hope for our food security, as well as ecological security,” said Gloria Estenzo Ramos, Oceana Philippines Vice President.
“The Philippine Rise Marine Resource Reserve is the first offshore protected area of the Philippines. We also hope that this exhibit represents our collective vision of a well-managed Philippine Rise for our sustainable future,” she added.

The Philippines claimed the Philippine Rise as part of its continental shelf in a claim filed with the United Nations Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf in 2009. The claim was approved in 2012 and is the first validated claim under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the first major expansion of the maritime boundaries of the Philippines since our exclusive economic zone was declared in the 70s.
On May 15, 2018, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Presidential Proclamation 489 declaring 350,000 hectares of the Philippine Rise as a marine resource reserve and almost 50,000 hectares as a strict-protection zone.   philippine rise

Road Travel: How To Replace a Car Battery

Replacing a car battery is an essential maintenance task. Under normal operations, a car battery should last between three and five years.
Find out how to replace a battery and why you should stop by your local auto parts store for battery testing services and the right replacement. Enjoy quality starting and long battery life when you pick up the right replacement part.
Pick up the right replacement battery and gather the necessary tools before replacing your battery. Be sure your vehicle is parked on flat ground in a well-lit area. Most automotive batteries are made with lead and acid, so it’s important to work carefully around an old battery and recycle it after removal.

Photo by Zach Vessels on Unsplash

Always remove the negative battery cable before touching the positive one. Most positive battery terminals have a plastic cover to prevent accidental contact. Only after removing the negative cable and keeping it away from the battery can you remove the positive cable from the battery terminal. Look for a battery strap, case, or other security devices before fully removing your old battery.
Simply replace the battery in reverse order. Secure the battery, connect the positive cable then connect the negative cable. Turn on an electrical device or attempt to start your car to test that your battery is fully connected.
Promptly recycle your old battery, as it can leak and damage materials if it’s improperly stored. Lead plates and sulfuric acid are damaging and hazardous materials, so take your old battery to a local recycling center or to your trusted auto parts specialist.
How To Find Out What Battery You Need
Photo by Bertrand Turpin on Unsplash

Automotive batteries come in a wide range of sizes. The physical dimensions, cold crank amps, warranty length, and other features affect the type of replacement battery you need. You can simply replace your car battery with an exact replacement, but use these features to verify that your current component matches the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Review the battery group size, which is represented as a two-digit number. Common batteries are between 24 and 75. Next, inspect your owner’s manual for the minimum cold-cranking amps, also known as CCA. A higher CCA rating will still work correctly with your vehicle, but a rating lower than the recommended one can prevent the battery from activating your starter.
The battery cell type, brand, and warranty length are all flexible features of your replacement battery. Discuss the pros and cons of various options with your local auto parts specialist or shop online to find the best component for your vehicle.
Tools Needed To Change a Battery
Photo by Nina Mercado on Unsplash

As you shop for a new battery, don’t forget to look for the essential tools for replacing your battery. Most replacement tasks only require a few hand tools, so an adjustable wrench and screwdriver should be all the tools you need.
If you’re uncomfortable replacing your own battery, stop by a trusted auto parts store today. Enjoy free battery testing, recycling, and replacing services for your new battery. Compare Duralast battery warranty levels to find the best protection to keep your vehicle moving forward.

Going to Boracay via 2GO Travel from Batangas Port

Not everyone knows about this alternative and sometimes, a cheaper way to travel to Boracay Island via 2Go Travel.

While flights will cost you around Php 2000+ per way on a non-promotional base rate, 2Go Travel has a fixed rate (season dependent) for their vessel prices.

Boracay via 2GO travel - www.twobudgettravelers.com

2GO Travel from Batangas Port to Caticlan Jetty Port

Our group, which was organized by TravelBook PH, were bound to Boracay together with the crew of GMA 7’s Poptalk.

From Pioneer (Mandaluyong) to Batangas Port, it took us about 2 hours due to traffic and rain. We were inside the port and were all checked in before 9 pm (departure time). According to the e-ticket that we have, it’ll be worth 9 hours travel time to Caticlan. There were other more travelers heading to the same destination but from Caticlan, they’ll head to either Boracay, Iloilo, Antique, or other nearby provinces.

The ship is not that big like those of what we see in the movies but is definitely just enough for people to fit in. There only are a limited number of passengers for ships like these and that must not exceed unless permitted.

While you`re are on long holiday vacation there is no need to miss your important work, Get instant access to your private workspace with virtual PCs by CloudDesktopOnline with excellent tech-support from Apps4Rent.com.

St. Ignatius of Loyola

St. Ignatius of Loyola is the name of the vessel (or the ship) that’s heading to Caticlan. We will be on this ship for more or less 9 hours.

What to expect inside?

Upon entry, you’ll witness the reception area. On that same level are the cabins, suite room, and the tourist class beds. Each passenger can have their own linen upon surrendering an ID. Each passenger also has their own meal but you have to present your ticket – never lose your eTicket for this.

Boracay via 2GO travel - www.twobudgettravelers.com

This area includes the clinic, chapel, mini store, linen counter and the front desks.

The area above is the cafeteria. You’ll get most of the food when you ordered a combo meal. It may get a little pricey but the food’s definitely worth it, and you don’t have too much choice if your stomach screams for food.

The upper level has the beds for passengers who booked the super value class. It’s a non-airconditioned area. During the day, it could be too hot especially if your bed was located on the middle side. Good thing the vessel’s schedule for leaving Batangas Port was always overnight.

The top floor is the open bar area. There will be performing bands here every night to entertain guests. Drinks and alcoholic beverages are also available. From here, you can see the outside world while the ship is moving. It’s a great place for you to relax and enjoy the vessel’s trip.

Keep in mind that the air-conditioned areas are the lower level and the cafeteria only.

Is the journey safe?

Definitely safer than your regular airways. You almost wouldn’t feel that the ship is always moving. No turbulence. No sound of engines. Just do your thing or sleep while it is on its way to Caticlan. Totally one of the best way to travel to Boracay Island.

What’s not probably safe here are your belongings. There will be no designated cabinets for you but there are lockers available. You’d have to bring your own locks, though. Always keep an eye on your belongings. They might get stolen from you when you’re not aware of your surroundings.

How about cell phone signals?

Mobile signals will not always be available because you’re in the middle of the ocean. No wifi available as well. But once you’re near the port, I promise you the signal is better. It’ll only be 5-7 hours of no data connection just like when you’re sleeping.

How many hours of travel time?

About 8-9 hours of travel time from Batangas Port to Caticlan Port and vice versa.
Batangas -> Caticlan = Night Travel
Caticlan -> Batangas = Day Travel
No matter what, you’ll have to sleep. Hah!

How can we book tickets and check for schedules?

You can find the schedule and buy tickets on the 2GO Travel website. Always remember to bring your IDs as it is required when you present your e-ticket.

From Caticlan Jetty Port, what’s next?

Visitors need to buy three different kinds of tickets for the trip to “Caticlan Jetty Port” in Boracay.
1. “Environmental Fee” (75 pesos)
2. “Terminal Fee” (100 pesos)
3.  Ticket for your ferry boat to Boracay (25/30 pesos)
Note: 100 pesos Terminal Fee is also collected on the way back from Boracay to Caticlan. Children over six years of age are charged the same rates as adults.

Boat crossing to Boracay will take only 20 mins.
From there, ride a tricycle or whatever going to Stations 1, 2, 3 or Diniwid.

How to Find the Best Travel Deal for 2020

Traveling by plane has always been the most expensive transportation option, although many travelers find the way how to find the best travel deal.
If you want to save money on your next airplane ticket, you will have to plan. Here are five tips to help you find the best travel deals in 2020.

READ: How to Have an Amazing Road Trip Around Eastern Australia

1. Browse from Different Locations

Airlines are notorious for price discrimination and dynamic pricing techniques they use worldwide. In case you haven’t heard of these terms before, price discrimination is a strategy that airlines use to offer different pricing to users in different locations.
For example, a person purchasing a ticket from a third world country would pay a lower price compared to a person in the United States.
If you want to unlock the best deals and fetch airline discounts for different countries, you have to change your location using a VPN. You can find a VPN free trial to give this a shot if you don’t want to invest in the service right away.

2. Use Flexible Dates

Unless you are obligated to travel during a specific time, you can experiment with different dates to save money on the next flight ticket. Different dates will unlock different ticket prices. It is not the same to travel in the middle of the season and right before it.
The good thing is, these price fluctuations can happen weeks or even days apart. It means switching your travel dates one or two days ahead can unlock a completely different offer. If your travel dates are not fixed, feel free to experiment until you find a suitable price for your budget.
The main idea is that the more flexible you can be on dates, the more likely you are to find the cheapest deal.

3. Opt for Flexible Destinations

For those who are planning a spontaneous vacation to any destination, finding the cheapest tickets is going to be much easier.
If you don’t have a specific location you would like to go, try to find the cheapest flights on specific websites like Skyscanner. Go to the flights search page, enter the departure city, and type everywhere in the to box. You can see if a destination matches your holiday expectations and budget.
If you have the spirit of an explorer, you will like this feature a lot.

4. Book Individual Flights

Most buyers opt for the connecting flight option on airline websites because it is much easier to buy tickets that way.
PIA VPN
The algorithm automatically connects flights to the desired location, so you don’t have to spend time looking for layovers.
However, most airlines increase their prices through the connecting flight option, which means buyers can save some extra money by doing the hard work themselves. Instead of using this automatic option, try to book individual flights for your location.

Even though this will take a bit of extra time, it will save you some money along the way.

5. Look for Airline Fare Errors

Flytographer – How to Capture IG-Worthy Pics
Even though this does not happen often, airlines sometimes make a mistake publishing ticket prices. They might make a typo or accidentally confuse two flights and offer a lower price than usual.
In most cases, tickets purchased under the error prices do not have to be returned, as it is the airline’s responsibility to price their tickets correctly.

READ: 5 Best Apps For Discount Flights – Cheap Flight Deals

People have saved hundreds of dollars just by looking for these errors.
However, if you don’t have time to check the sites every few hours and look for errors, you can use the website Secret Flying. They post airline fare errors as soon as they find them. The lower prices remain available until the airline removes them.

Conclusion

There are many ways to save money when planning a vacation, especially if you have time and flexibility to think ahead. On top of these five tips, one more thing you can do is to book the tickets way in advance.
The earlier you buy, the lower the price.
Therefore, if you can plan a vacation a few months ahead, you will already make some great savings. It also applies to hotels. There are plenty of accommodation discounts and deals for different locations. All you have to do is take your time to search and use all available tools online.

5 Thanksgiving Products for a Family Road Trip

Coming together on Thanksgiving is a custom that is followed almost religiously in many parts of the world. However, the event does not take away from the fact that this is a road trip, and you will have to be equipped with everything required to make it as comfortable and exciting as possible.
Visit scooterscouter.com to check for great electric scooters for your kids, check out Thanksgiving sales at Amazon, and visit your local supermarkets to avail all the seasonal discounts possible. At the end of it all, however, the following are important products that you should be carrying with you.

1. Traveling Guitar

If you know how to play the guitar, then you probably take one with you to every such event. If you do not know how to play one, learn some basic chords and get in the habit of jamming around as the car rolls on towards your loved ones. family road trip
Guitars add an amazing dimension of feeling how incredible the trip really is, especially at night time. Playing your favorite songs by the Beatles, whistling to the tunes, and keeping every engaged with heads swinging sideways is a wonderful sight in a trip to record on social media and tell the world this is how you live your life. family road trip
There may also be times during the trip when you do not have the energy to talk to people or want to be engaged in social contact in general. These are the times when you bring out your guitar and make the night your own. In addition, it is always a great skill to learn because jamming sessions are a lot of fun on their own.

2. Organizer Bags

Search the markets thoroughly to find bags which suit your needs, and in thanksgiving season these specifications become a lot more important to follow. You might be keeping crockery and processor items in your bags to take to the house you are going to when you prepare the feast, or gifts for the people who reside in the other city. In any case, you need a container that you can rely on because it is nasty to see that something you have been carrying with so much care ends up broken or torn on account of the incompetence of its container. family road trip
Get bags which have separated sections for keeping items, such as clothes, delicate and fragile items, etc. The general narrative around such bags is that they are very costly to hunt down and find, but that is not true. The purpose is not finding a set of bags by a designer brand to ensure that you travel in style; with affordability, you must have the capacity to spend more time in searching and figuring out what bags can make the best combination for you. family road trip

3. First Aid Kit

Road trips do not always go as planned. There are certain factors such as the weather, the condition of the car, the situation of the road ahead, etc. which can hinder the progress of reaching the other city. The more we remain exposed to an environment where we are no enclosed in the comfort of our homes and offices, the more we are prone to get injured by something or the other.
With a first aid box, you can avoid the trouble of waiting for ambulances, of rushing to hospitals or making a member of your traveling crew suffer because of lack of resources. The idea is to load the box with everything that you may feel is important, which includes painkillers; muscle relaxant sprays and creams, band-aids, anti-allergies, etc. It should be a priority to fill up the box with medicines and supplements which are consumed by members traveling with you on a regular basis, especially if the trip is longer than a day. Do not worry about carrying excessive items; make it comfortable for everyone.

4. Cards and Board Games

A trip is really exciting when you are leaving because the fun experiences are awaiting keep the heads occupied. However, once in the vehicle, the monotonous journey can get a little annoying because then you might start searching for when it finally ends. In those times, with the exception of the person driving the car (our condolences to you in advance unless you love driving for long hours), everyone can have a good time playing a game of cards, or setting up a fun board game to play as the car moves on.
Make sure that the game is not as detailed and demanding such as Monopoly or Risk because detailed games are not feasible on a road trip where you have to manage space and comfort. Snakes and Ladders, Pay Day, Uno Cards, etc. are better substitutes because they keep things short, entertaining, and a number of members can play at once.

5. Food Supply Baskets family road trip

Do not shy away from populating your food basket with snacks and small food items such as sliced pizza, drinks, etc. You will find this habit of keeping food with you on every road trip a great way to minimize cost because you will not be getting off on every stop thinking of what to buy next to satisfy hunger. In addition, to more, you stay away from buying from the outside while on the trip the more it will tend to be comfortable in terms of using the restroom.
For children, in particular, there should be a separate basket which has items that they like to eat. How you distribute the timing of what they eat is a personal choice, but it is a good idea to vary the timing sufficiently.
So what really makes Thanksgiving great? Family members arriving at your house with smiling faces and an exciting weekend to look forward to, and that can only happen if they travel in comfort. When planning your trip for next Thanksgiving, ensure that these products find a priority in your list of items to keep.
