8 Clever Just Because Gifts for Couples on the Go

8 Clever Just Because Gifts for Couples
on the Go

There are so many different faces of romance, all of which are excited to express to the love of your life. Sure, travel takes up a large part of it, but there are plenty of other ways to treat your significant other while you’re traveling all over the world. Whether it’s cooking up a meal together, cuddling up for a movie night, or going through the memory book of your past weekend getaways, there are so many ways to dial into your relationship and celebrate the bond you’ve created together.
At the end of every day, you fall asleep more grateful for your partner than the day before, and what better way to show your love and appreciation for them than with a sweet just because of gift. No need for a birthday, Valentine’s Day, or other gift-giving holidays, these 8 gifts are awesome options for any regular day where you’re feeling extra thankful.

1. A record player

8-clever-gifts-for-couples-on-the-go
For the music lover who’s always got a song stuck in their head or a playlist queued up for chores around the house, drives to work, or in-shower concerts, a turntable record player is an excellent way to connect them to their favorite hits. There are plenty of portable options, but these gifts are also perfect for the couple that likes to return home to something special. Experts say that vinyl sound quality is eons better than digital quality as zero audio data is lost. Essentially, a record player is the gateway device to hear music the same way it was initially produced to sound.

2. A good book

Is your lover a bookworm? If the way to their heart is through some good old-fashioned storytelling, an interesting book will go a long way. Regardless of whether they’re into poetry, political biographies, or graphic novels, there are always so many exciting new titles out there waiting for a new set of eager eyes.
In need of some inspiration? Check out these fan-favorite bestsellers:

  • The Institute by Stephen King
  • Petals of the Moon by C. Churchill
  • On the Come Up by Angie Thomas
  • Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James

3. A weighted blanket

Known for alleviating stress and the symptoms of depression and anxiety, weighted blankets are an amazing gift for anyone struggling with their emotions. The added pressure of a weighted blanket increases the release of serotonin in the brain, causing the “happy” chemicals to free flow and create a sense of calm. They’re comfortable, soft, warm, and have plenty of other attractive benefits your partner is sure to love. If you travel a lot, it’s so inviting having a warm bed and a weighted blanket waiting for you back home.

4. An Airbnb stay

We couldn’t resist adding in something travel-related, even if this is more of a little staycation. An Airbnb stay is the ultimate way to get away from home without actually being far from home at all. Choose an Airbnb with luxurious amenities like a hot tub or on-site sauna to make the trip double as a spa getaway.

5. A potted plant

8-clever-gifts-for-couples-on-the-go
Flowers are pretty and picturesque, but they only last for so long. A potted plant is sure to last for years with proper upkeep and care, and for someone with a green thumb, a new plant is plenty of reason to rejoice. Even if your partner is rather graceless when it comes to greenery, these low-maintenance plants will be incredibly easy to keep alive:

  • Chinese Evergreen
  • Fiddle Leaf Fig
  • Asparagus Fern
  • Yucca
  • English Ivy

6. A keychain

Keeping your nod of appreciation short and sweet with a keychain is a great way to let your partner take a piece of your affection with them wherever they go. Whether it’s a cute miniature puppy that reminds them of their childhood hound or a monogrammed tag, make sure the keychain you pick is something special.

7. A tea infuser

A tea infuser is a thoughtful gift for the lover of all things related to tea. If your lover is picky, choosing a loose-leaf tea that they’re sure to love can be pretty difficult. Rather than subjecting yourself to the stress of pinning down the perfect tea, opt for a fun tea infuser. Outside of the typical metal mesh infuser exists a spectrum of alternatives that come in cute animal shapes that are sure to bring a smile to your partner’s face.

8. A mug

There’s no such thing as too many mugs. Civil Service Jobs – Where And How To Apply

Are data and evidence the guiding principles of your decisions? Are you interested in how policies affect the public? If you’ve answered yes, you may want to look at civil service jobs.

In the US, civil service employees play a huge part in shaping the lives of every citizen. There are many duties and responsibilities public servants must consistently uphold.

If you want to work in civil service, knowing where and how to apply is the first step towards getting a job. Below, we have prepared a comprehensive guide that will help you.

Civil Service Jobs

Civil Service Jobs – What Exactly Are They?

Civil service jobs refer to a wide range of positions found in the US government. These can be federal, state, or local positions.

Therefore, when we say someone is a civil service employee or a civil servant, this means he or she is employed in a government agency.

Generally, the duties of public servants are diverse. This is because there are many different career paths in the public sector.

Depending on your interest and skills, you may apply for a position in any government agency with a focus on engineering, finance, education, healthcare, or the justice system.

There are plenty of jobs to choose from, so its best to take a hard look at your strengths and weakness in choosing one that is right for you.

Why Become A Civil Service Employee?

Generally, people who want to become public servants are driven by passion and principles. If you want to help improve the lives of the people, a career in the public sector will give you an opportunity to achieve that.

Aside from the diversity in the field, which will enable you to choose your preferred career path, most civil service jobs are also only available in full-time positions and operate during regular business hours.

Moreover, since people who work in the government are considered the backbones of national growth, they also enjoy a wide range of benefits like health benefits, paid time off, retirement funding, and more.

Civil Service Jobs – Where And How To Apply

Applying for a civil service job in the US is relatively simple. To do so, you must first identify the civil service position that is right for you.

Generally, you can do this by doing the following.

  • Research Online

Surely, the advent of the internet has made things easier, faster, and more convenient to anyone – especially to job seekers. If you’re looking for a possible civil service job opportunity, you may want to conduct online research on the available job positions in any government agency.

Generally, there are two ways you can find your preferred position via the internet.

  1. Using Popular Job Employment Sites

Thankfully, with the presence of many online employment platforms, you can now easily spot available job positions for your particular qualifications.

Some of the most popular employment platforms you could turn to include Jobstreet, Indeed, and LinkedIn.

Simply create an account on any of these job-searching sites, upload your resume, and look for available civil service positions in your area.

  1. Visiting the US Government Career Site

Of course, the government also offers a way for interested individuals to be part of the public sector. Specifically, through their official site, people can find available job positions.

If you’re interested, simply visit the US government’s official site, click “Work,” and choose “Current Openings” under the “Domestic/Civil Service” category.

You will then be provided with a list of available civil service positions. If you find a career that interests you, simply click the “Apply Now” option. It is located just beside your preferred job position.

  • Attend A Civil Servant Job Fair

Similar to applying for other careers, you can also attend job fairs in the public sector.

Look for upcoming events in your area. You can also reach out to your local community for tips. Stay updated on the latest news to identify when and where a civil servant job fair will take place.

3 Top Local Tourist Destinations for Australians Who Love Adventure

Adventure tourism is the next big thing in traveling. Instead of visiting parks, museums, or even renting out an entire Disneyland park (assuming you have the money for it), adventure tourism offers the chance for people to step out of their comfort zone and feel.

These are popular destinations for the younger tourists, but plenty of adventure tourism options around the world can fit adventure-loving travelers of all ages.

But for locals looking for adventure tourism destinations in Australia, you’re in luck: there are plenty of places to go for local thrill-seekers. Here are the top three local tourist destinations for adventure-loving travelers.

  1. The Gold Coast

The coastal city in Queensland offers plenty of tourist attractions by the shore, which means plenty of water activities for adventure seekers as well as the option to wind down at the beach after a day of exciting activities.

With over 70 kilometers of coastline, the Gold Coast’s most popular surfing destination is Duranbah Beach, which is called “Dee-bah” by locals. If you’re not into surfing, there are other water activities like motorboats, jet skis, or even trying out a flyboard. The Gold Coast offers so many things to do that even nearby cities in Queensland, like Brisbane offer fishing charters to take advantage of the vast wildlife and open waters.

  1. The Sydney Harbor Bridge

For adventure travelers, it’s not enough to take a photo with a monument in the background and call it a vacation. But what if you could take it a step further and actually climb some of these popular monuments? The Sydney Harbour Bridge offers this opportunity.

BridgeClimb Sydney offers a different way to experience this iconic landmark. Ticket prices vary for the type of climbing experience you want: lower bridge climbs take around an hour and a half, while climbing to the highest point of the bridge and back can take around three and a half hours. Bear in mind that because of the bridge’s high altitude and long climb, this is an ideal destination for those who aren’t afraid of heights.

  1. The Great Barrier Reef

Everyone has heard of the Great Barrier Reef, but did you know that you can take a snorkeling trip to see it first-hand? Witness tropical marine wildlife and marvel at the beauty of this natural UNESCO World Heritage site that is the world’s biggest collection of coral reefs and over thousands of species of fish.

Plenty of accredited tour guides provide snorkeling options for first-time divers and certified divers who aren’t afraid to go deeper into the beauty of Australia’s marine wildlife. You can also opt for additional features on the way, like scuba diving classes or a helicopter flight to get a bird’s eye view of the location.

There are many more tourist destinations across the country for thrill-seekers looking to remember the heart-stopping adventure sites. But, as always with most adventure sites, it’s important to be careful and know your limits to avoid any injuries or accidents during your adventure.

KKday Kimono Rental Experience in Kyoto | Maiko-Henshin Studio Shiki

What could be some cool other ways to experience Japan? Is it the food, the scenery, or talking and mingling to locals? In any way you would want it, there are a lot of ways that you could experience being a cool one in Japan. One of which is when you decided to walk around temples and the streets of Kyoto with a Yukata or Kimono on.
While it’s already my second time to visit Japan, I only had the chance to wear a Yukata during our Kinosaki Onsen adventure with friends which the experience didn’t even last long. We came into our ryokan so late that we only had a few hours of exploration time in the area. We didn’t even get to see the nearby temples in the town. Hence, also the reason why I would like to try a Kimono on during the daytime to know how it feels wearing it over the day. It was Jane’s first time in Japan as well so I want to make it a memorable one for her. KKday Kimono Rental

How to get to Maiko-Henshin Studio Shiki

Kimono Rental Experience in Kyoto via KKday | Maiko-Henshin Studio Shiki
Kiyomizu-michi (the street going to Kiyomizu-dera Temple and the studio

We came from Hostel Ten in Kujo area, one station south of Kyoto station, so we are a little farther from the rental studio but only a few minutes walk away to the Kyoto station. Good thing trains and buses in Japan are efficient. However, we opted to take the bus from Kyoto station to Kiyomizu-dera Temple.
Maiko-Henshin Studio Shiki can be reached from Kyoto Station by bus number 100 or 206 (15 minutes, 230 yen). Get off at Gojo-zaka or Kiyomizu-michi bus stop, from where it is a 5-minute uphill walk to the studio.

Starbucks Kyoto

Actually, from getting off at Kiyomizu-michi bus stop, we used Google Maps to reach the studio. The best landmark I can advice is that the Maiko-Henshin Studio Shiki is just across the entrance to the famous Starbucks Kyoto, where the concept is old Japanese, near Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Furthermore, while we were using Google Maps, our network connection was a little unstable though, so we had to rely on a local public hotspot. I only found out after I got home that this could have resulted in data theft so I would recommend other travelers to download a VPN for Japan before using the many local hotspots.

Getting transformed from casual clothing to Kimono

Upon reaching Maiko-Henshin Studio Shiki by 8:15 am, I presented our KKday voucher and they immediately took care of us. They only speak a little English so do not speak in full sentences to get them to understand you. They also are very helpful and professional. KKday Kimono Rental
There’s a waiting area with magazines and huge television screen and a self-service water.

From the reception area, we were separated. The dressing rooms for male and female are different even when you are a couple. A staff will escort you to your own dressing room and will ask you to change your clothes. You will then be asked to select your preferred Kimono and will help you with fitting and getting changed. KKday Kimono Rental
You will also be given a small pouch or bag to serve as a storage of your important belongings that you need to bring (i.e., cell phones, passports, wallets, etc) because your backpack or anything bulky will be left in the storage area. I have never also seen a person in Kimono with a bulky backpack.
For the girls, you will also be offered a hairstyling package of JP¥660 if you want. It was originally a JP¥1080 package with JP¥420 discount exclusive for KKday customers.

After about 45 mins to 1 hour, everything is done and we’re ready to go and explore Kyoto for a day! Take a look at our photos and how lovely we are looking! ♥

Places to visit while on your Kimono

There are quite a number of places you visit after getting changed to a wearing a Kimono. As for our experience, here are the places we visited.
First on our list is the Yasaka Pagoda.

Yasaka Pagoda KKday Kimono Rental

Yasaka Pagoda is a popular five-story pagoda located to the west of Ninen-zaka and San’nen-zaka streets. The pagoda is located inside the Hokanji Temple. This pagoda is sometimes opened to the public, at that time, we can go up to the second floor and have a view of the city of Kyoto through the windows.
The admission fee is JP¥400.

Young couple doing photoshoot

We even saw a couple doing pre-nuptial photos in this famous landmark in Kyoto.
Second on our list was Kiyomizu-dera Temple.

Kiyomizu-dera Temple

Kiyomizudera (also known as “Pure Water Temple”) is one of the most well-known temples of Japan. It was founded in 780 on the site of the Otowa Waterfall in the wooded hills east of Kyoto and derives its name from the fall’s pure waters. – Japan Guide.
From the studio, it’s only about 10 mins walk away. The road was uphill but comes with many vendors and stores so you won’t notice that it’s uphill. The street to the Kiyomizu-dera Temple was also a bit congested due to numerous people wanting to visit the temple. You can take a look inside the temple for an admission fee of JP¥400.
Third on our list for this day is the Yasaka Shrine.

Yasaka Shrine

Yasaka Shrine is also known as the Gion Shrine and one of the most popular temples of Kyoto. This shrine is located in between Higashiyama district and Gion District. We spent quite some time in here. It has no admission fee and you are free to explore all of its areas including the other parks around it. There’s also a hiking trail but we didn’t opt to visit that part as it was too hot.

We just sat down at the entrance and ate Takoyaki and Long Fries.
Fourth on the list is the Maruyama Park

Maruyama Park

Maruyama Park is located nearby Yasaka Shrine. It’s famous during the Sakura or Cherry Blossom season. Many families, friends, and couples get here just to enjoy the view of the area.
Fifth on our list is Gion.

Gion

Kimono Rental Experience in Kyoto via KKday | Maiko-Henshin Studio Shiki

Gion is a district in Kyoto famous for its night scene and iconic stores. Geishas are usually seen in the area of Gion. We walked thru the streets and tried out some food especially the Match drink in the area. We also walked until we reach Hanamikoji Dori and Kennin-ji Temple Hojo.
Sixth on the places we’ve visited for the day is the Kennin-ji Temple Hojo.

Kennin-ji Temple Hojo

Kennin-ji Temple Hojo

The oldest Zen temple in Kyoto, Kennin-ji Temple is an oasis of calm on the edge of Gion with a magnificent Zen garden. It’s also considered as one of the most important Zen temples of Kyoto. Getting inside the temple has an admission fee of JP¥4500.
Seventh and the last place we’ve visited was Fushimi-Inari Taisha.

Fushimi-Inari Taisha

Kimono Rental Experience in Kyoto via KKday | Maiko-Henshin Studio Shiki

Fushimi-Inari Taisha is a very important Shinto shrine in southern Kyoto. It’s famous for its thousands of torii gates. The gates lead to the sacred mountain, Mount Inari. Fushimi Inari is the most important of several thousands of shrines dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice. There is no admission fee in here so you can spend time all you want. It’s not closing as well so we took a visit to Fushimi-Inari Taisha in the middle of the night during my first visit to Japan.
It’s also the place where I planned to propose marriage to Jane so we spent a good amount of time in here. There are lots of people who walk around so it was quite hard to speculate a location where there are fewer people. Still, I managed to propose to her and everything turned out to be perfect!
Here’s our engagement video and also a bit of the Kimono experience.

After spending a good one day and experience with the Kimono we are wearing, we need to go back to the studio to return it. Unfortunately, we were a bit late. Returns should not be beyond 5:00 PM, we got back at 5:30 PM so we had to pay JP¥1000 penalty fine for returning the kimonos late. It was okay though, we had the best day of our lives! Thanks to #KKday for providing us with this experience! KKday Kimono Rental

2020 Travel Resolution: How To Travel To At Least 4 New Countries This Year

As the new decade starts, you might find yourself wanting to move out of your comfort zone and travel more. In fact, your New Year’s resolution might include being a better traveler and seeing the world from a new perspective. You’re not alone in this.

For many individuals, this means traveling to far-flung places and new countries on the top of their list. In this day and age, you might be wondering, “is it even possible to travel to at least four new countries this year?” Although you may be doubtful of 2020’s potential and what it has in store for you, you can definitely hit this goal for the year.

If you are interested to find out ways you can travel to at least four new destinations, you are in for a treat. Take a look at this guide. This might just help you score great deals wherever you wish to go.

Go To Countries Near You

Transatlantic flights tend to cost more – and for good reason. These flights require more fuel and mileage, which is why they command a relatively higher price tag. To help you stay on budget for the year, why not choose countries that are already near you?

Individuals living in Asia – for example, Japan or Thailand – would do well to visit neighboring countries in Asia. Such trips often only require a few hours of travel time. Not to mention, they have a more affordable price tag.

Find Cheap Flights

Once you have your plans and wish list in hand, it’s time to book your flights as early as you can. Doing so allows you to score great deals and get to your destination at a fraction of the cost. Find flight deals by scouring the web and using booking sites like Expedia, CheapOAir, Travelzoo, TripAdvisor Flights, Google Flights, and many similar pages. These ensure that you find the best prices across different routes and airlines.

Getting your hands on cheap and more affordable flights allows you to cross more countries off your list. If you are lucky enough to have a travel fair near your area, make sure not to miss out on it. Often, travel companies and licensed agents are privy to seat sales, flight promos, and accommodation discounts. Take your plans with you and visit the event to score affordable flights. You’re guaranteed to get at least 20 to 30% off regular fares.

Statistics from SmarterTravel show that flights should be booked 54 days in advance. But if you manage to find affordable airfares and flights even 6 months to a year before your trip, why not, right?

Book In Advance

Now that you have booked your flights in advance, you might as well take the chance to book your accommodations and tours as well. Booking in advance allows you to get low prices compared to when your planned vacation is coming up. Plus, you can rid yourself of the hassle of searching for rooms and places last minute – especially during peak season where prices can be sky-high.

Use Your Credit Card

One of the best ways to travel to more countries is to use your credit card. Bonus points if you have a travel credit card on hand. Apart from letting you accumulate more points and even more mileage, you can use the rewards to pay for your trip!

Depending on the terms and conditions of your card, you can actually use your miles to fly to a destination of your choice. You can also enjoy exclusive promos and discounts on accommodations, so it’s certainly a win-win situation.

The Bottom Line

Hoping to travel at least four countries this year? Make this travel resolution come true with these handy tips. After all, seeing the world doesn’t have to be expensive.
