We often hear Bataan as a place of rich history, brave Filipinos fighting for freedom, and the great battles that transpired in the different regions of the province.
It was quite a surprise when I learned that this place does not only offer an opulent amount of culture but also prides itself with stunning beaches and sanctuaries of nature, both land, and sea.

Playa La Caleta: Bataan’s Hidden Treasure

We were quite fortunate to have visited one of its most wonderful spots, which is Playa La Caleta.
Playa La Caleta, which means “Beach Cove” is an eco-tourism resort found in Morong, Bataan. The whole stretch of 1-kilometer white sand is such splendor to behold, coupled with a lush mountain lush mountain jungle/forest in the middle and 3 waterfalls at the back. To the island’s left, lies a 1-hectare islet, called Miguelito Island.

How to get to Playa La Caleta?

via Fajardo’s

Take a bus from the Cubao to Balanga via either Bataan Transit or Five Star (Php200)
From the Balanga Bus Terminal, take a jeep to bring you to the Bagac Public Market (Php50)
From the Bagac Public Market, take a tricycle to Fajardo’s Beach Resort located in Bagac, Bataan (Php50)
From the port of Fajardo’s Beach Resort, take a 25-30 minute boat ride to PLC (Php1,800 for 10 persons)

Via Private Vehicle
Option 1: via NLEX

From Manila, take the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and exit at San Fernando (Php157 toll fee)
Take the westbound side of Jose Abad Santos Avenue (Gapan-Olongapo Road), heading towards the towns of Bacolor, Guagua, and Lubao in Pampanga.
Upon reaching Dinalupihan, turn left at Roman Superhighway.
Once in Balanga City, turn right at Gov. J.J. Linao National Road. Drive along the scenic route at the foot of Mt. Samat (where you can see the Dambana ng Kagitingan).
Continue driving until you see the Philippine-Japan friendship tower.
From this tower, follow the color blue, metallic, reflectorized signages that point to PLC.
In between the Kilometer 56 & 57 markers, the same PLC signage will tell you to go down a road on the left side. This will bring you to the port of the Jaime Hilario Integrated La Salle School in Morong, Bataan.
From the port of La Salle School, take a 10-15 minute boat ride to PLC (Php1,800 for 10 persons)

How are the accommodations at Playa La Caleta?

They have a wide array of accommodations to choose from. Sure there is something that will definitely suit your needs and budget!

I particularly love the beach rooms because they have a unique form of art in each. As for ours, we had birds! It is airconditioned, and totally comfortable to sleep in!
All rooms share a public toilet, and this is actually part of the eco-friendly environment the resort is campaigning.

Are there any water activities?

Definitely! They have a lot of water sports here too, and what makes them so unique is that they are promoting tourism by also ensuring that nature won’t be compromised.
Playa La Caleta supports only natural water sports, the ones that do not need machinery or engine functions:

The resort believes that you can enjoy the resort and nature without having to introduce unnatural facilities. And I couldn’t agree more!

I think this is the first resort I’ve ever been in that is so committed to ensuring nature’s preservation.

I got to try kayaking and swimming and I had the best time!

My huge pregnant belly didn’t even pose any limitation for me to fully enjoy the Playa La Caleta experience!

Pet care has been one of the essential parts of modern society. For a time, the people who only went to the veterinarians needed animals for work. Farmers, ranchers, and gaming hubs like to have vets around for their moneymakers. Those animals who stay at home, like dogs and cats, still received care from their owners, but most of them do not even meet the right physicians. Some of them die off, not without their owners knowing about their real condition as you may read here.
In the modern world, it has changed quite drastically. Sure, there are still industries that need animals for help, as farms still have them. However, technology has made it easier and faster to do tasks like tilling the soil than using buffaloes and horses. Additionally, many animal rights groups have condemned such activities, along with those who live the vegan lifestyle. As it is, people who live in larger cities also like to keep smaller pets for themselves.

The Preference To Animal Care

It might seem that it is easy to take care of pets. Some families and groups believe that it is so much more worth it than raising a child. It is indeed comparably more affordable, as children have constantly changing complex needs as they grow older. Meanwhile, most animals are low-maintenance, and some of them can take care of themselves. Cats, for example, have been well-known to survive in the wild even without human intervention.
Additionally, people like to take care of their pets to the next level. Some of them even consider them as a replacement for a human child. It is not usually due to dark or vicious reasoning; they like babying these little critters. There are many benefits to keeping a beloved animal right by your side, especially if they are responsive to human emotions like dogs and cats. These creatures have been considered one of the best to keep around whenever you feel negative emotions.
However, it does not mean that they do not have emotional needs of their own. Social animals such as dogs tend to experience psychological issues when their demands are not met. Some show symptoms of depression like withdrawal and lack of appetite. Others tend to go for a more aggressive route and attack their owner. They can show signs of anxiety through withdrawal as well and fear of almost anything.
With these issues becoming even more prevalent, it has led many pet owners to look for alternatives. Even though going to the vet is the safest choice, not all people can afford the fees. Finding other decisions seems to be the more comfortable choice since you do not have to spend a lot of money. Many chose to turn to herbal medicine, like using CBD or cannabidiol. It is the extract found in cannabis, which is the most valuable part of the plant.
You might end up asking yourself why CBD is the chosen one since it is a well-known casual drug for human use. For the longest time, many places here in the US have made it illegal to use and cultivate cannabis due to its perceived addictive properties. Kaybiang Tunnel

Burot Beach or Manuel Uy Beach Resort in Calatagan

Just head a little down south and you’ll be in Calatagan, Batangas. A place where coves and beaches reside.

According to witnesses, Burot Beach is not anymore unspoiled. Despite an overpriced 150 pesos overnight entrance fee, the place was poorly maintained.

Manuel Uy Beach Resort, on the other hand, is a new favorite because of the cheap entrance fee of 50 Php and is close to the resort which is tagged as the Maldives of the Philippines, Stilts’ Calatagan.

How to Get There:

Catch a bus from Victory Liner or Five Star in Cubao or Pasay going to Alaminos, Pangasinan. Fare P393 for Victory Liner from Cubao. Travel time 5-6 hours. It is advisable to take the night bus to reach Alaminos first thing in the morning.
From Victory Liner terminal in Alaminos, catch the bus to Sta.Cruz, then alight at Burgos Public Market. Fare P30. Travel time 35mins.
From Burgos Public Market, grab a trike that will bring you to Cabongaoan Beach. Fare P300 for 2. P400 for 3. Travel time 1hr. Alternatively, you can catch the once-a-day jeep to Cabongaoan that leaves Burgos Public Market between 10-11AM. Fare P30.
* You may contact Kuya Rocky at 09276159713 or just grab any trike at the terminal.
Haggle but do not get below P300. Even locals pay the same rate. I believe the rate is justified.

Getting Out:

🚌 Getting out is as easy as following the same route.
However, it is advisable that you contact the trike that brought you to the beach and arrange for a pick-up as there are no trikes in Cabongaoan.
The option residents use in getting to the town proper is to catch the once-a-day jeepney that leaves between 5-6AM.
🚌 Once you are back at Burgos Public Market, hail either a jeep or a bus that will bring you to Victory Liner terminal. P30 for bus and P25 for jeep.

Cabongaoan Beach Tips:

– Buy your necessities at Burgos Public Market.
– There are drinks at the beach, they’re not expensive.
– Phone signals from all networks are erratic.

Accommodation | Where to Stay:

We stayed at Roven’s Place and met Kuya Ronald (Inggo) and Ate Venus. They are very accommodating. Contact them ahead of time if you need to reserve cottages especially during summer. They have the best beach front. The rest of the resorts (except Amayaj), mabato ang harap.

This is not your ordinary staycation getaway. For a night, you can get to stay on a yacht in a resort in Nasugbu. Depending on how much you can spend, you can totally get the most of your money! Plan your trip and bring forth some friends too! You may opt to go solo and enjoy your own company. Even more romantic when you will be staying with the people you love, just like what we did.

How to Book at Tom’s Cruise

1. Tom’s Cruise is located inside the South Marina of Club Punta Fuego in Nasugbu, Batangas. When you’re booked, you’ll have to proceed to South Marina and look for Kuya Joel, the caretaker of the yacht.

How to get there via Commute

1. From Manila, ride a bus bound for Nasugbu. Drop off at Nasugbu Town Proper. Landmark is Jolibee and or McDonald’s.
2. Hire a tricycle direct to Punta Fuego. It will cost you P160.00 per way, up to 4 persons OR go to the tricycle terminal near McDonald’s and wait for other passengers, costs P40.00 each, one-way.
3. You will be dropped off at the Club Punta Fuego gate. Further instructions are sent when you are booked.

How to get there by Car

A 2.5-hour drive from Manila via the Ternate-Nasugbu Highway or South Luzon Expressway is all it takes to arrive at this exclusive address. Upon reaching Brgy. Balaytigue, drive to the gate of Peninsula de Punta Fuego where the Batangas resort is located.

What to Expect

a. A nice and clean yacht designed for long journeys, VERY INSTAGRAMABLE as the interiors are world-class.
b. A lot of other yachts docked in the marina.
c. Compared to other yachts, Tom’s Cruise cannot hold a yacht party. Only 2 to 4 persons can be accommodated.
d. Only booked guests are allowed.
e. BRING YOUR OWN FOOD.
f. The yacht is only docked at the marina. If you wish to cruise, see rates below.
g. You can cook, eat, drink, and do anything you want in the yacht but bring your own drinking water. In case you didn’t bring a water to drink, you may ask Kuya Joel to buy something for you. Leave him a tip especially if you asked for his services, as a courtesy. yacht staycation

What to Do when you are booked on Tom’s Cruise

You have access to the Long Beach (free). Wait for the shuttle to bring you to this place.
Kayaking (free) – ask Kuya Joel to set this up for you.
Paddle Board (free) – ask Kuya Joel to set this up for you.
If you wish to use the pools and the other facilities at the Main Club and Long Beach, there is a guest fee of P1,200/pax with a consumable of P450 which you can use in the restaurants, sports facilities and water sports rentals.
Island Hopping (P4000.00/hour on a speedboat).
If you wish to cruise, that’s P15,000.00 per 3 hours.

Please be reminded of the following rules:

1. Smoking is only permitted at the back cockpit of the boat. yacht staycation
2. Heavy cooking is not allowed. Bringing in of bbq grills or stoves is not allowed.
3. Pets are not allowed.
4. Swimming/fishing is not allowed at the marina.
5. Partying and bringing in of unregistered persons is not allowed on the boat.
6. Noise curfew at the marina is 10 pm.

Short Review and Experience at Tom’s Cruise

One of the greatest experience we had on out of all our Airbnb staycations! The yacht is clean and with complete stuff inside (bed, refrigerator, water for usage (not to drink), plates and utensils, microwave oven, cd player, aircon, television with movies. Though it was quite the smallest on all the docked yacht in the marina, it’s still a perfect place to stay. Jane actually would want a second night but we had a schedule and something do on Saturday so were only there overnight.
The marina is quiet at night. You can use the paddle board or the kayak and go to other places you might want to go to like another beach or another place to swim. LIfe vests are also available in case you would need them. yacht staycation

“Our stay at Tom’s place was really great!! The boat was spacious for 2 people and the marina was really scenic. The beach was close by and there were a lot of activities. We were not able to meet Sir Tom but his caretaker Kuya Joel was really helpful and accommodating. We were also able to borrow some snorkels and life vests too.
