REVIEW: The Oriental Bataan (and All Its Wonders)

The Oriental Bataan

The Oriental Bataan - https://twobudgettravelers.com
I have been to Bataan only once, and it was only for a day tour. That was why I was too happy to know that during this trip, I will get to stay in one of the finest hotels in the province, which is The Oriental.
We had a lot of places to visit during the entire tour, and you can imagine my surprise when I saw where we were staying. the oriental Bataan

The Hotel

The Oriental is located in Mariveles Bataan. This location actually gives you a lot of advantage as it gives you an easy access to most of Bataan’s tourist destinations, such as Sisiman Beach and Mariveles Five Fingers Cove.

The Accommodations

The hotel is so posh and spacious, I can hardly believe we can have this accommodation all to ourselves.
I love how the design is a fusion of modern and traditional. It’s so obvious I couldn’t resist taking on snapshots! the oriental Bataan

The sheets were fragrant, same as they were soft. I can remember how deep and hearty my sleep was.
Their room rates start at P4,500 for 2 guests. the oriental Bataan

The Amenities

The pool was extra inviting that night, the lights were misty and they remind me of a pool club I saw in Brazil, in one of my internet gallivanting of course.
They also have bed canopies in one area where you can cuddle or bond with your friends and loved ones. It sure looks cozy!

The Restaurants

[hoops name=”InArticle”]
I was in awe how this place can have too many restaurants. You have the Cocoon for wine nights, Forest Grill for some night chill with friends, wherein you can feast on seafood and beer while listening to the awesome tunes of a band, and of course the Oriental Hotel’s buffet restaurant.

The Food

We had a buffet breakfast and I was pretty much excited to try everything, but of course, I have to be careful on what I put in my body, knowing that my baby also gets to share those. It was so nice because there was someone assigned to cook your eggs the way you want them. You can even choose the ingredients to your omelet! 🙂  the oriental Bataan

The Oriental Adventure Camp

The Oriental Bataan - https://twobudgettravelers.com
As we only stayed for a night, we weren’t able to try their team building activities in The Oriental Adventure Camp. It has varied obstacle courses that would definitely spur fun and inspire teamwork amongst its participants. I am sure if I had the chance to stay longer, I would’ve enjoyed embarking on these!
Book your stay in The Oriental when you visit Bataan! You’ll definitely love the experience!

Experience Party and Fun 5 Times via Boracay Pub Crawl!

Traveling solo? Looking forward to partying all night and experience ultimate nightlife in Boracay? Here’s the best answer to your worries. We represent, Boracay Pub Crawl!

Boracay Pub Crawl - www.twobudgettravelers.com

“What happens in Boracay, stays In Boracay”. Though that famous statement about the island is partially true, it’s not the same with Boracay Pub Crawl.

Boracay Pub Crawl remains true to their campaign “Turning Strangers into Friends!”, and my entire experience with the pub event is absolutely surreal. Those captains and strangers were a big part of my big Boracay experience. People who I never even knew or met before became an instant friend not only in Facebook but also in real life. We get to party through the night, exchanged ideas and conversation, and chat like we have known each other for many years.

Boracay Pub Crawl - www.twobudgettravelers.com

How Boracay Pub Crawl started

A little bit of history, Boracay Pub Crawl was started in January 2012 by Oliver Koellner, a German national who seek for countries with the possible big revenues and low cost for business. He asked his friends on what economy and nationality is best suited for his style and then decided to put up Pub Crawl in the Philippines. He now has Pub Crawl Manila and Boracay Pub Crawl.

The idea of “Turning Strangers into Friends” was his campaign. He wanted to show international and local folks that they are capable of being friends with each other even though they have different principles and ideologies.

Boracay Pub Crawl - www.twobudgettravelers.com

No Ordinary Night Life

The twist in the story? Boracay Pub Crawl is your no ordinary nightlife. It is the ultimate nightlife! You will be hopping through a series of bars and clubs from all-over Boracay. Meaning, from Station 1 to Station 3 is where you will be! Your best nightlife ever starts here!

Boracay Pub Crawl - www.twobudgettravelers.com

Upon registration, you will be given a t-shirt, a shot glass tied to your neck, a wristband, and 5 shots stubs.

The T-shirt can show your creativity. You may opt to tear the shirt into a design of your choice, make it a tank top if you want. The shot glass is where your shots are filled, be careful not to lose this one! The 5 shots stubs are in different colours labelled with bars 1 -5. This should be given to the bartender to have your free shot, but one shot per bar only! The wristband is all part of the souvenir together with the t-shirt and the shot glass. Bearing the shirt will give you a big discount if you want more beer, a bottle will only cost 50 pesos.

Start the Pub Crawling!

On our experience, we have been to 5 different known bars, Boracay Pub Crawl, Wave, Epic, Gypsea Shack, and Club Paraw. In each bar, you’ll present your stub to claim your free shot. After the last bar, you may opt to stay and keep partying or go home and rest. Although you could go home after each bar if you feel like it but your experience won’t be complete. :p

Boracay Pub Crawl - www.twobudgettravelers.com

The Captains I mentioned earlier are the game makers or are serving as leaders to the group. They provide absolute fun and excitement to the activities they offer. It’s not all about partying, dancing, and drinking throughout the night, it’s also playing, fun gaming, and making friends!

Photos? No worries about that! There’s a designated captain that will take photos of you and the squad throughout the entire night which will be uploaded on their official Facebook page. You can also take selfies with the other party people and you’d know they are game for photo ops! Once they see cameras flashing, they’ll absolutely go to your side and take a picture with you! Taadaa! Instant friends!

Boracay Pub Crawl - www.twobudgettravelers.com

Contrary to the belief that Pub Crawl is a total disaster and that the participants are making too much noise, I can attest that this event is perfectly safe and participants are all well briefed. I also agree 100% that this is the best party of your life ever, not only that you have enjoyed, you also gained friends, a lot of friends!

I recommend this to all people who’d love to party or wants to experience the ultimate nightlife in Boracay!

If you are single, then this event is perfect for you! If you are broken, this event will definitely cheer you up! But if you are with your boyfriend or girlfriend, you might want to think twice, pretty girls and hot guys are a common target. LOL!

Basdaku White Beach: Another Summer Destination in Moalboal, Cebu

Because summer doesn’t end when the rainy season starts, it’s time for you to check out Moalboal’s Basdaku White Beach located in Cebu! The are plenty of other things to do in Cebu and you just can’t miss this one!

Basdaku White Beach - Cebu - www.twobudgettravelers.com

Basdaku is a place (barangay) located in Moalboal, Cebu. It caters a kilometer long stretch of white sand beach, turquoise blue waters, and other saltwater wonders. It is also known as Basdaku Beach Resort. An alternative to its relative beach, the Panagsama White Beach, Basdaku Beach Resort is more popular with locals, and not quite much known for foreign tourists. The beach is very much available to the public. With an entrance fee of just 5 pesos each, you may enjoy the long stretch of white-sand at its finest.

Tent Pitching, Accommodations, and Comfort Room

Tents are readily available in stores and accommodation setters in the area. As for us, we brought our own tent to reduce cost. The pitching of a tent is FREE! You won’t have to pay for anything if you bring one! If in case you don’t have one, worry no more as there are many establishments and homestays waiting for adventurers like you. Price differs per room and accommodation type.

[READ: Canyoneering in Cebu]

Basdaku White Beach - Cebu - www.twobudgettravelers.com

Public comfort rooms are always available in the daytime. They require a certain fee for a clean water supply. One pail of water costs 5 – 15 pesos. There will be someone to assist you in collecting the water and bringing it to your comfort room of choice. Freshwater is pretty much a necessity in this area. When you need to clean up, it costs around 20-30 pesos (0.75 USD), and that depends on how much water you would have to consume. If 20-30 pesos didn’t fit your needs, to have to pay for another set of clean water.

Basdaku White Beach - Cebu - www.twobudgettravelers.com

Local Food Mania

Food will always be part of our travels. In Basdaku White Beach, food stalls, sari-sari stores, and “karinderyas” are pretty much available everywhere, especially in a daytime. Ihaw-ihaw, lutong-ulam, ready to eat foods, fruits; soft drinks and crackers can all be found in a store. When night strikes, most of the stores tend to close. Only a few remaining stores will stay open but most of the owners are sleeping! Lol!

Basdaku White Beach - Cebu - www.twobudgettravelers.com

Beach Bumming and other Activities

What to do in a beach resort? Beach bumming, yeah! As for me and my girlfriend, Jane, we went on a walk along the stretch of the beach. It’s pretty amazing to know that there are huge coral stones on the other side where people are not mostly going to. Some parts are also mossy but that only means it’s healthy as there were not many people going to that side of the beach. This part is generally quiet and peaceful, perfect for your own quiet time and self-searching.

Basdaku White Beach - Cebu - www.twobudgettravelers.com

Basdaku White Beach - Cebu - www.twobudgettravelers.com

Of course, we also went for a swim. In some shallow parts, you will find small species of school fish roaming around the area and just happily swimming freely. They look lovely! The salt waterbed, I could say is clean and crystal-clear. Even when the water is neck-deep, I am still seeing my feet!

Basdaku White Beach - Cebu - www.twobudgettravelers.com

For the activities, most resorts offer an island hopping tour to Pescador Island. In Pescador Island, snorkeling activities are highly encouraged. You will also be witnessing a sardine run if you are lucky enough! That’s more than a thousand pieces of sardine fish not in a can!

From its clean blue waters to its diverse environment underwater, it’s a rich source of marine species and corals. Cebu truly has many of the best beaches in the world!

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, Bataan: A Visually Satisfying Haven for History Lovers

Do you have the urge about our history and architecture? If so, then a place in Bagac, Bataan will surely be eye candy for you!
Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is an open-air museum and collection of old or heritage houses in the city of Bagac in Bataan. It is owned by José “Gerry” Acuzar and his fascination with the old Spanish colonial era mansions inspired him to create the open-air museum that started in 2003. Years go by and his collection started to gain numbers and the heritage park was later then opened in 2010.
las-casas-filipinas-de-acuzar-a-visually-satisfying-haven-for-history-lovers
Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar currently houses about twenty-seven (27) Spanish colonial-era buildings. The houses in the collection were chosen based on its historical value.
Each house or mansion was carefully dismantled and then transplanted to and from all over the Philippines. Each part of the old house is numbered and transported to Bagac for reassembly and construction.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar Walking Heritage Day Tour

las-casas-filipinas-de-acuzar-a-visually-satisfying-haven-for-history-lovers
Together with the tourism officers of Bataan Tourism and fellow bloggers, we had an exciting day tour at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. We are quite ecstatic as this will be the first time we are visiting the place that we have been planning for quite some time but wasn’t happening until this opportunity came. We’ll also tell you the possible side trips you could go to before or after your day tour in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar.

Before Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar visit

We arrived a bit earlier than expected from Manila because there was no traffic at all during that time. We left at around 8:30 in the morning from McDonald’s in Mindanao Avenue and we were able to arrive at the tourism office of Bataan by 11am-ish.
We had our lunch at Ima’s Pamangan located in Pilar, one of the quite famous restaurants in Bataan known for native Kapampangan and other Filipino delicacies. After having our buffet lunch, the team decided to drive to the KM 0 (Kilometer Zero) Death March marker. Not too far away is also the Philippine-Japanese Friendship Tower that’s also located in Bagac.
After visiting these historical sites, we’re then headed to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar.

Walking Heritage Tour in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

las-casas-filipinas-de-acuzar-a-visually-satisfying-haven-for-history-lovers

Sneaking from afar, we are all excited to see the famous Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in person. You can see how the place and the area are well maintained and in good form. There also are people working on construction for an additional building near their reception area.
Our official guide, Ms. Tina, went over to the reception area and asked for our passes while we, on the other hand, started taking pictures in and around the area. After a short while, we’re all asked to join our guide on touring the vicinity.

A jeepney will be picking you up from the reception to the designated house where the tour will start. This experience is quite exciting especially if you are a foreigner.

Guided Tour of the Heritage Houses

Once you have booked your tour, you will be provided with a guide that’s knowledgeable on the houses they are guiding you in. If you are full of questions, you have the authority to ask your thoughts.

Casa Lubao

We started with Casa Lubao, a heritage house from Pampanga.

“Owned by the Arrastia-Vitug family and built in 1920. The house sat directly in front of the Lubao municipal hall. Before the Second World War, a Japanese man came to work as a driver for the family. It turns out that the driver was one of the many Japanese soldiers who infiltrated Filipino communities years before the war.
When the war broke out, the Japanese seized the house and used it as a garrison. Although Philippine history is ridden with horrors of Japanese cruelty, the Arrastia-Vitug family was spared, thanks to their driver, who turned out to be a Japanese colonel. ” Source: Tales of love, lust, and murder at Las Casas Filipinas

Casa Quaipo

Next house we went to is the Casa Quaipo.

“Casa Quiapo built in 1867 and owned by Don Rafael Enriquez, which was given to the University of the Philippines and became the first Fine Arts school from 1908 to 1926. This building is also known as Casa Hidalgo and if I heard it correctly from our tour guide, the house once cater to sex shows and abortion services.” Source: Houses In Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar That You Should Not Miss

Casa Luna

The other house we went to was Casa Luna from La Union.

“A museum with plenty of great historical memoirs, Casa Luna is a big square house named after Juan and Antonio Luna. The house was built in 1850. The Luna house has several rooms, each of them with plenty of collectibles from the past. The windows are beautifully adorned by capiz shells. Circling the house is a hallway which, according to the tour guide, was the only part of the house where the traditional Filipino servants called “aliping sagigilid” were allowed access to.” Source:  Travel Back in Time to the Best of Spanish Heritage Houses: Las Casas Filipinas
There even are old items dated from the 20th century that are on display at this house to which some are allowed to be touched and used upon like the old style of ironing the clothes using a coal iron and a wood panel.

Casa Biñan

The last house we were guided to was Casa Biñan from Laguna.

Casa Biñan was where the film Heneral Luna was shot. If you have seen and remembered the film, this is where General Luna was shot dead by the President’s Aguinaldo’s soldiers in the last scene of the movie. This house was where Doña Teodora Alonzo lived, the mother of our National Hero, Jose Rizal. It was also known previously as the Alberto House.

POTENTIAL SIDE TRIPS

1. Philippines-Japanese Friendship Tower – spend a few minutes in the tower and read the inscriptions in the bell and know about the history.

2. Kilometer Zero Death March Marker – This marks the first point where the death march has begun.

3. Ima’s Pamangan – An ideal place for food adventurers before heading back to Manila.

4. Mount Samat National Shrine (or Dambana ng Kagitingan) – a historical shrine located near the summit of Mt. Samat. The memorial shrine complex was built to honor and remember the gallantry of Filipino and American soldiers who fought during World War II.

Now, if you want to learn and know more about Filipino history, you definitely should visit Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. Each home has stories to tell and the surroundings are a total class. They designed the pathways, the bridges, to restaurants, to be similar to the Spanish colonial-era which also makes you think that you’ve been brought back to the old age.
Kudos to our tour guide who was well knowledgeable about the houses and the history of each people behind the homes. She wears a Filipiniana dress that adds an appeal to the overall look of Las Casas.

Overall, if you are to spend a day, make sure that you bring umbrellas or are wearing comfortable clothes especially during noon as it could get very hot. They have welcome drinks upon arrival and after the tour. When the guided tour is over, you will be given a cold towel and a bottle of cold water to refresh.
You can still roam around by the day to take photos of the scenery and I’m sure, your eyes will be very delighted by the environment that Las Casas provides. Everything was visually appealing and satisfying and it makes you want to stay more.

CherryRoam Travel WiFi Review [China, Macau, Hong Kong Travel]

One of the few necessities, when you travel nowadays in this age of time, is to make sure that you are always connected online, anytime and anywhere. More especially when you are doing online work.
In this modern time, updating one’s Facebook and other social media accounts have become a norm for travelers. Instagram must always be updated not because to show off but to inspire other people that you can go to places too. But you cannot just go to another place and expect there’s always “free wifi” everywhere. This is where travel WiFi devices are coming into place.

Gone are the days (almost) when you need to buy a SIM card and insert it on your phone. You can now just rent travel wifi and connect seamlessly wherever you are, whenever you want.

CherryRoam Travel WiFi

CherryRoam T2 Slim

What is CherryRoam? Cherry Roam is a hotspot travel Wi-Fi device that provides up to 4G/LTE data speed ensuring a fast, stable and secured internet connection globally. It uses a SIMless connection to provide a data connection to any of 100+ countries worldwide.
We have used this during our travel in Guangzhou, China – Macau – Hong Kong – and Shenzhen, China. Here’s our review.

CherryRoam G3 Travel WiFi

cherryroam-travel-wifi-review-china-macau-hong-kong-travel
CherryRoam G3

We were provided with CherryRoam G3. This is the newest addition to CherryRoam device family including CherryRoam T1 Style and CherryRoam T2 Slim. We haven’t used any other CherryRoam devices yet and this is our first time to try out the product.
The CherryRoam G3 has a battery capacity of 5,350 mah which can last for more than 18-24 hours of usage (based on experience). With 4″ LCD display and a power bank feature tp charge your other devices. A cool and convenient device indeed. It’s like a regular phone except that you can only use it for your internet connection.

CherryRoam Experience in Guangzhou, China

Since the internet connection in China is exclusive, we had to use a VPN service (Virtual Private Network). Good thing is that CherryRoam has a data package for China with VPN. So for us, that was a great plus to the service.

Canton Tower, Guangzhou

For those who do not know yet, if you go to China and you don’t have a VPN app installed on your phone, you will have problems connecting to the internet as most sites are blocked and only China-approved websites will be available. Facebook and some of the other social media are not allowed, so in order for you to use Facebook, you need to connect to VPN first.
And with CherryRoam Travel WiFi having its own VPN access service, everything went seamless and we were directly connected to the world.cherryroam-travel-wifi-review-china-macau-hong-kong-travel
We actually had issues in Guangzhou Airport and you can read it here. But thanks to the connection CherryRoam provided, we were able to access our Facebook and other accounts without hassle so we got sorted out. Imagine if we don’t have a travel wifi device in our hands, we could be stuck in the airport for a day.
cherryroam-travel-wifi-review-china-macau-hong-kong-travel
By the way, when we first opened the device, we didn’t expect that its battery was low so we had to charge it first before using it. We really haven’t checked if the battery level was okay for use when we were in the Philippines, so we were quite surprised that it was on less than 10% battery capacity when we first opened it. Nonetheless, the service and connection it provided us was great. You can just charge it and go.
We spent 4 nights in Guangzhou and this is what we often use even when there is wifi on our Airbnb. The wifi in China is generally hard to use or connect to even if you have a VPN app. Glad we had this travel wifi in our hands.
cherryroam-travel-wifi-review-china-macau-hong-kong-travel
The data package provided for us was 5GB of network use and before we left Guangzhou for Macau, it has a remaining data capacity of 2.XXGB. We are not heavy Facebook/internet users when we travel overseas because we also want to enjoy our moments away from the online community.

CherryRoam Experience in Macau

For those who do not know, yes, you can cross to Macau from Guangzhou, China. Macau is just in the south of Guangzhou and is just around 2 hours away.
cherryroam-travel-wifi-review-china-macau-hong-kong-travel
As soon as we entered Macau, the data connection on our CherryRoam Travel Wifi seemed to have refreshed but is no longer 5GB. I honestly could not remember but I think it was around 2gb to 3gb of data.

READ: 5D4N Hong Kong and Macau Itinerary | Travel Guide 2018

Apparently, the travel wifi detects your location and starts to use/connect another network and your data package is different per country.
Similar to our Guangzhou experience, we had no issues connecting to the internet in Macau because their internet is open (non-exclusive) unlike in China. In Macau, you do not need a VPN.
cherryroam-travel-wifi-review-china-macau-hong-kong-travel
We used up only a bit of our data because there are lots of FREE WIFI connections in Macau – from restaurants to hotels. You wouldn’t even need to use your travel wifi, only unless you are far from establishments.
Take note that the buses are free (free shuttle) and do have Free Wifi too.
cherryroam-travel-wifi-review-china-macau-hong-kong-travel

CherryRoam Experience in Hong Kong

This is the part where I got kind of confused about our data connection. Unlike when we departed Guangzhou that the data allocation has refreshed or changed, it was different when we entered Hong Kong. I’m thinking that the data allocation was for both countries already.
cherryroam-travel-wifi-review-china-macau-hong-kong-travel
Apparently, we were left with 2.xx GB when we left Macau and we will stay in Hong Kong for 2 nights. Not sure if our remaining data will be sufficient.
Anyhow, I highly advise you not to take the bus from Macau especially if you have large luggage with you going to Hong Kong. It’s true they are now connected via a bridge but the border crossing process was very tiring especially if you have a large suitcase with you as you’d have to go down and back to your bus four (4) times. I’d rather suggest you take the ferry from Macau to Hong Kong.

We had to make use of what little has remained from our CherryRoam Travel WiFi device so basically, we used most of the data on the first night. Luckily, there’s wifi on our Airbnb home so we didn’t have to connect only at our CherryRoam.
As for the connection, it still gave us a seamless connection despite the remaining data we had to use. I think 2-3 GB of data wasn’t enough when you have Macau and Hong Kong travel for almost 5 days.

CherryRoam Experience in Shenzhen, China

cherryroam-travel-wifi-review-china-macau-hong-kong-travel
So after Hong Kong, we were back in China. We will be staying for two more nights before heading back to Manila and we’re also back to needing VPN connection again because, well, we’re in China.

READ: What to Pack When Traveling to a Colder Climate

This is one of the easiest border crossings we had in this entire travel itinerary because Hong Kong and Shenzhen could be crossed using just the train.
Remember when we left Guangzhou and had the remaining data of 2.xx GB? Well, it was continued in Shenzhen. I think the data allocation was for the entire China trip. However, I am not 100% sure that is the case.
cherryroam-travel-wifi-review-china-macau-hong-kong-travel
Similar to the connection in Guangzhou, CherryRoam Travel WiFi with a data package of China with VPN really helped a lot. The VPN is integrated into the app/device itself so all we need to do was open the device and let it serve us while we were in China.

CherryRoam G3 Travel Wifi Verdict

Overall, we had a good experience using this device. It isn’t bulky and heavy unlike any other travel wifi in the market. The connection was so seamless. The design was sleek and it’s just like a regular phone that you can put in your pocket.
The battery lasts for up to 12 – 24 hours of usage so it was great. Though normally we are charging the device every night to make sure it won’t die on us during the trip. Other than that, you can also use it as a power bank if needed.

cherryroam-travel-wifi-review-china-macau-hong-kong-travel
CherryRoam T2 Slim

I may have not seen it reach more than 10mbps (I use Speedtest app installed on my phone), especially in China region because probably of network restrictions, but rest assured that the data connection is fast enough for you to open and browse websites, play videos, and games too.
The LCD display helps you keep track of your data usage which is a good thing especially if you only have a data allocation package. It helps you monitor how much remains of your data.
It was also easy to use. Just open the device, wait for a mere 2-4 minutes until it has determined your location and network, and connect to the internet good for up to 5 devices (or more) simultaneously. It acts as a WiFi hotspot.

We totally were in awe with China with VPN package. As I have mentioned earlier, the internet in China is totally different than the rest of the world so that package really helped a lot in getting us always connected within China.
But if you already have a VPN app installed on your phone, you can also avail of the China data packages alone (without VPN).

A Night Of Making Memories in Camarines Norte

I was invited by a group of bloggers to join them in exploring Camarines Norte. It was an unforgettable and fulfilling experience. Exploring a new place gives you good vibe – learning their culture, exploring unknown spots and meeting the locals.
We left Manila at nine(9) in the evening for 8-9 hours of travel going to Camarines Norte. I was a having a severe headache at that moment but washed it away so I can jive in with my new found blogging team. I slept the whole travel.

First Day in Camarines Norte

At 4:30 AM, we finally arrived at our hotel accommodation.

Prime Suite Hotel is located at Maharlika Highway, 4600 Daet, Camarines Norte. Check their facebook account here.
We took a few hours of rest and sleep before starting our day.
It was 9:00 am when we headed for our first stop. The day was quite cloudy as there are bits of rain showers when we left the hotel. Luckily, the rain stopped when we reached Vinzons.

Parroquia de San Pedro Apostol – Vinzons

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bb5oLTWF4qB/?taken-by=codesandtravel
The stunning façade of this church was our first stop. Parroquia de San Pedro Apostol is the oldest church in Camarines Norte built in 1611. It’s a 400 years old church that lies in the heart of Vinzons.
According to Rev. Father Augusto Jesus B. Angeles, the church was destroyed by a fire on December 26, 2012, right after Christmas. All of the historical artifacts were not saved but the whole structure of the church stood firmly. The church walls stood strong despite the catastrophe.

Wall of St. Peter the Apostle Church

With the help of the local government of Camarines Norte, they renovated the whole church which turns to be one of the most stunning churches that I visited. The 400-year old limestone church with chandeliers and ceiling murals signifies the restoration of the whole church.

100 Years Old Ancestral House

A 100-year old house owned by Don Ramon Pajarillo lies across the oldest church of Vinzons. Vinzons gives the Vigan vibe as there are some ancestral houses along the way. The old veranda of the house is a perfect place to converse. I always enjoyed the old wooden houses that lined the streets, especially in out-of-the-way provincial towns. The caretakers preserved the historic elements of the house.

Estela’s Garden

After appreciating the history of Vinzons, we dropped by Estela’s Garden for a snack. Estela’s Garden is famous in Camarines Norte as it serves some of its province delicacies. It was my first time to taste “Ginataang Sinantol” – a dish made from the grating of santol (Sandor or cotton fruit) meat mixed with coconut milk.
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bb6XsO3FhR4/?taken-by=codesandtravel

Capalonga, Camarines Norte

From Vinzons we travelled for about two hours going to Capalonga, another town in Camarines Norte. We had our stop at Mommy Teri’s Bulalohan to meet one of the tourism officer, Sir Joel and to have our lunch before exploring the whole Capalonga town.

The Black Nazarene of Capalonga

Near the municipal hall of Capalonga lies a church called the Diocesan Shrine of Jesus.

There is also a separate church for Chinese people at the back of the Catholic Church.

Capalonga Beach

A long stretch of Capalonga beach welcomes you when you reach the starting point of the town.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BcPWAKyF6oe/?taken-by=codesandtravel
Capalonga name was derived from “Palong Manok” which is the rooster’s comb. Later, it changed to Kapalungan.
The best part about Capalonga are the locals. We went to visit this one oldest bridge which signifies how they unite despite a rural place.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BcRaK0MFguL/?taken-by=codesandtravel
It may not look that strong as other bridges but this construction is a perfect way to describe Capalonga’s tranquility and beauty for me. I love how the kids happily plunged under the bridge. This gives them a simple joy to embrace province life despite a rural place.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BcSMGk3lEVG/?taken-by=codesandtravel
We left Capalonga with big smiles and hugs to this beautiful secluded place. The green grass along the road, cool breeze of the sea and the fresh air gave me the best feeling away from city’s noise.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BcPTagrlqju/?taken-by=codesandtravel

My Thoughts

The day was filled with lots of experiences and new learnings. Camarines Norte is a one-stop destination when you really wanted to break out from the main city noise. This is the place where you can find calmness of the sea, the tranquility of the place and the relaxing atmosphere vibe.
Thank you, Camarines Norte tourism office for this great opportunity in discovering your place.
