A campsite at Cockatoo Island is also the cheapest place to stay in the city, setting you back only $45, unless you don’t want to cut down on comfort and choose a glamping alternative. The island is equipped with bars and cafes, and even a self-catering camp kitchen. To reach Sydney, all you have to do is jump on a 10-minute ferry to Circular Quay, while the best views remain all around you.

6. Roar and Snore, Taronga Zoo

If you are looking for a completely different place to stay, and a wild one at that, Sydney’s Taronga Zoo gives visitors a chance to stay at the Roar and Snore safari sleepover. Australia’s single largest animal collection, Taronga houses over 4000 different species. At night, once you settle in at the Roar and Snore, you are surrounded by all the zoo’s creatures, while remaining cozied up in your opulent safari tent, with a dazzling view of the Opera House in the back.
